    Though for the Day!

    THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

OPEC sells oil for $136.00 a barrel.
OPEC nations buy U.S. grain at $7.00 a bushel.
Solution: Sell grain for $136.00 a bushel.
Can't buy it? Tough! Eat your oil!
Ought to go well with a nice thick grilled fillet of camel ass!!!

In 95 during the long tour in "Land of the Morning Calm" from 98 to 06, I had the need to purchase a new car through AAFES Mil sales. I wanted a new hybred Escape. Couldn't get one because there were no trained mecs with AAFES or in Kor to do the service on them. So purchased the 6 cyl. I trust that there is a trng plan in place and time phased execution of the trng plan to get the mecs up to speed. Unless that is, all you gotta do is plug them in cna change the batteries.

What do you think powers electricity plants? If it's not nuclear, it's probably oil. I don't think the electric car is the answer, especially the production of those huge banks of batteries, that's got to be damaging to the environment.

What are they going to fuel aeroplanes with? Can't see planes running on batteries.

Sorry, that is a stupid idea, SEATraveler. They can buy othe rgrain instead of US grain but the US cannot buy other oil than OPEC oil, not as much as they need.

Khun Fabian, Not a stupid idea. Call it outside the box but in the end you could call it fair trade.

Oil cost no more today to produce than it did a year ago but the increase in costs to consumer is up substantially.

Wrong, everything has increased in price due to higher transport cost.

And in the end, it is a question of availability contra demand.
Raise the price of grain and see how much of it will be sold..

I think you are wrong on that one Dennis3506 it's not just those two sources by far.
Most used sources of fuel to generate electricity are:
Geothermal, NaturalGas, Nuclear Power, Wind Turbine, Hydroelectric Turbine and Coal. The later is the most used source by more then 50%. But new technology and biomass alternatives are on the verge of creating more energy surplus which could lead us away from petroleum usage even more.

Thats the point, because a large portion of the price of oil is being artificially inflated due to speculation, that drives the costs of everything else up. If the prices of oil had not increased, inflation would be held more in balance.

Sounds like you asking the age old question of if "it was the chicken or the egg that came first" Khun Lom....

Well, enjoy these prices because they'll get far higher before your body calls it a day.

Not asking any questions, only presenting my avalanche theory.

    1. Price of oil goes up.
    2. Freight company pays more for the oil needed to transport the oil.

Alternative fuels haven't been introduced because oil had been cheap and available. Now that it's neither, I suspect to see a serious push toward something else. Unless this turns out like the "oil crisis" of the 70s that lasted a year or two, I expect watershed breakthroughs in technology.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

The ME imports heaps of food. If every country that's being shafted by oil prices puts a 300% tariff on grains exported to the ME, maybe we can negotiate.

Its good for the environment anyway.
