From the ones I just looked at each ask which candidate they favor. Very straight forward. For example, registered democrats are asked; Do you favor Obama? Do you favor Clinton. For the general election it is a mix of Dem and Rep.

We all know all polls are not created equal so I believe this is what prompts your question. One can always find a poll to support an augment so for me having an average is about the best we can hope for. This site, a Time/CNN owned one seems to generally objective in presenting both parties on an even field.
