The Dems will get the Obama vs Clinton issue sorted with Obama emerging as their candidate. Obama will defeat McCain. McCain's stance of continuing and probable expansion of troop strength is in direct conflict with the majority of voters whom indicate a 60% disapproval of the war. Hard as he may try, he will not be able to distance himself from his albatross GWB. GWB's approval rating and an indicator of sentiment towards the Republicans is below 30%! The economy will be a big issue but the Dems have a more populist message and while I don't agree with it, it resonates with the electorate. The biggest obstacle to McCain winning is simply mathematics. The enthusiasm and Dem voter turnout generated by Obama ensures the Dems will by far outnumber Republicans in the general election and I doubt there will be many voting republican. The upside for McCain is he has no worries about his issues with right wing conservatives as I doubt even given their current "dislike" for McCain they certainly will not vote for Osama.

    I see this also, CT.

The Clintons are subtley playing the race card.

They will go to any depth to get power.

I cannot stand Hillary, and I'm sick of Bill.

Ferraro is the latest. I doubt Hilde had any connection but the subtle racial jabs stick in the minds of some voters to their benefit.

The issue with McCain is who will he nominate for vice president. The guy is so old it's odds on he'll peg out after a few months in office and someone like Huckabee will end up running the country and the dollar into the ground.

Yeah, the VP choice is critical.

But I don't like it because: the VP choice for McCain may be to placate the social-moralist-conservatives.

And the choice may be less focused on economic acumen and policy positions.

The possibility of the VP assuming office if McCain checks out, is very real. You never know at that age. Things can turn for the worse (medically) quickly.

^^ CP - No argument from me who would be the best recruitment aid for
    Al Qaeda.

I belive Al Qaeda wants the U.S and Allied forces out of the middle east. The sooner the better. BO and the Dems would be more likely to do that. McC & CO. don't sound like they are ready to leave yet.

Obama said the other day - he'd take a look at the situation if he became president and if troops needed to stay he would have them stay. (love back peddling politicians)

Yes, Uncle Tom is better than Hester Prine. If Hester can't win there will be a lot of men sleeping on the couch.

Let me suggest another scenario...Not one that I like or could ever endorse, but worth thinking about...

Neither Obama nor Hillary will have enough delegates by convention time to get the nomination on the first ballot...Obama has no plans to be Hillary's VP and Hillary has no plans to be Obama's VP...So that is out...So we have a stand-off...I suggest that at that time the party elders will understand that further talks between these two will only lead to further strife in the party...So they come up with a new candidate that can heal the wounds caused by Hillary and Obama...Ready for this...Al Gore and Obama will be VP...Al Gore does not want it, but for the sake of the party will accept and all the new Obama supporters will be OK with it...Hillary supporters would support Al Gore.....Al will run for one term and then Obama can have his 8 years after Hillary has faded into the sunset..

Agree, not a good track-record. But then add to that voting in (not to mention wasting tax payers' money impeaching) a President (for two terms) that was an admit adulter before they went to the ballot box the first time.

Gary Hart must really have wondered where he went wrong

while this is a problem, it's not the biggest problem he faces.

what he can never overcome is the fact that he's old. not just old but really old. and he had cancer. and his wife is a junkie. and he's got dirt all over him from the keating five. and he's admitted he doesn't know shit about economics when the US is facing the largest economic crisis in at least a generation.

and if you don't think he's out of it now, wait until the general election campaign goes into full swing, and he falls off a stage.....bob dole redux.

nobody wants their cranky grandfather to be president.

^Yeah, but Regan had style, charisma and charm. You can get away with murder with those traits.

McCain isn't boring - I love it when he goes off on the press. Speaks his mind.

^Come on, McCain is a decent fellow, but he is no Reagan or Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton could stand in front of you and say "I am not here," and you would believe it. I think obama can develop his bullshit to reach a high level too. He's got charisma.
