I find that liptons and Earl Grey both have an unpleasant lemon after-taste. Tetleys rules ok?
Red Rose tea used to give away a little ceramic animal figurine in every box of 100 teabags. For years I would buy these teabags (for serving to visitors who didn't deserve good Darjeeling), and built up a nice collection.
Anyone else remember the Red Rose figurines?

I like that spicy Indian chai -- whachamacallit. I drink alot of green tea. I like regular tea, but it only tastes good if a Brit makes it for me.
Simmer the tea leaves in a pan of milk, not water.
Add crushed cardamom seed, cinammon, slice of ginger. Let simmer for a few more minutes.
If you like a bit of bite, add a couple of cloves.
If drinking after a meaty meal, add some anise seed to aid digestion.
Adjust the masala according to preference (in future brews).
Works well with Green tea and Mate also.
Or, be efficient and buy a couple of different brands of Chai Masala powder from an Indian store, and see which one you like.
If you know someone coming from India, ask them to buy "Spice Drop Tea Masala" liquid, in 5ml bottles; made by Universal Oleoresin in Kerala. The best I have tasted so far, and quite yummy to add to cake batter and on ice cream.

^Thanks, Zipcode. There is an Indian shop near me that I buy spices and stuff from. I'll try it. I first drank it at a black moon party on Koh Phangnan. Almost made up for the lack of beer and wine.
^ You are welcome!
Many regional variations throughout India, but two key points:
1. Boil the leaves in milk, not water
2. Cardammom
All the other spices are for a richer taste tapestry.
Can even make a drinkable Masala (btw, 'masala' just means 'spice mixture') chai with Earl Gray tea (shudder, shudder).
If cholesterol is not an issue, simmer double or triple portion of strong black tea leaves, cardammom, and honey or jaggery in cream; strain out the tealeaves; let cool, and refridgerate.
Can use as a dunking liquid for cookies.
Can spread a spoonful atop a bowl of ice cream or a slice of cake.

When I lived with an Indian family in the UK, Mum used to make a cracking cup of Chai Masala. Always a stonking curry or two in the fridge as well.Originally Posted by Jet Gorgon

Green, frothy Japanese tea, the kind used in cha-no-yu ceremony, is the most foul drink I've ever had. (after lao khao)
Extremely bitter with nasty bubbles. I felt like I'd been French kissed by a camel.
Wanted to puke ...
Disaster - I have just returned from Central Chidlom food hall - no decent tea!
Usually they have either PG Tips, Taylors of Harrowgate Yorkshire Tea (the best) or M&S/Waitrose own brand. Only Twinings. Lipton and dodgy South Asian brands.
Has anyone seen any good stuff for sale at other outlets?
PS the silver lining to the cloud was some excellent Milano Salami....

Yeah, that's it, matcha. I'm told it's very good for you, but I think I'd rather die.

When I go up country the family always have a supply of Cha Lawn for me. Looks like muddy creek water after the condensed milk is added. But still hits the spot in the mornings.

Fresh ginseng tea in Korea is nice - keeps you up all night. Not the powdered ginseng in bags though
Drink coffee instead, it not only tastes better but is available at a host of decent outlets like starbucks and Black Canyon

Don't be stupid - the coffee there is terrible.Originally Posted by Chuck Norris

^ Agree. Black Canyon's is OK, but Starbucks is far too expensive & really not up to much.
incidentally Central world food hall sell pg tips - the only place at the moment. in case anyone is interested.
Tea will always taste different depending on where in the world/country you are, as the water you use affects the taste. For instance Yorkshire Tea is apparently, specially blended for Yorkshire water, so will taste totally different down south, where its predominantly a hard water area.

I virtually grew up on Earl Grey so it has a special place for me. I know it's not everyone's barrel of sheep skulls though.
I've gravitated towards green tea more and more lately, found a great brand and make sure I have one-two cups a day. Full of anti-oxidants and stuff apparently. And it gives you the same level of concentration of coffee without adding the manic streak and elevated heartbeat plus it doesn't make you want to poo like strong coffee does. If somebody's interested in the brand of green tea I can have a look later, can't be bothered right now.

Hi guys,
Since you guys are chatting about Lipton tea. Does anyone know where to buy "Lipton Decaf Tea" in Bangkok? I live near Bangkapi, so if anyone could help me out, I would be truly greatful. I know it tastes like shite, but my doctor has told me I have to cut-out all my caffine intake...Blast!!!! PS: does anyone know of any other decaf tea...?
Wheelbase...![]()
Many thanks, I'll nip down there ASAP!![]()

It's not as bad as Tesco Lotus tea bags.
