Thread: Motorbike rental in Bkk - any reccomendations?

As the title says.

How long do you want to hire for?

When I first came to Bkk I rented a bike from John at Q Cars in Pattaya...he's a real good guy and even rode it up for me...

I would've thought using their BKK office would've been easier, or don't they rent out bikes in Bangkok?

3-4 months.

The funny thing is I don't know anyone who has ever rented in BKK, and though I know a few guys who ride their own, I've always thought it would be one of the last things I'd want to do.

There are lots of police checks, and even though I've ridden both big bikes and small bikes many years in Thailand, Bangkok is the one place I wouldn't want to do it.

Just too hairy and stressful.

^^ Might be better off buying a second hand bike.

Not sure how much rental costs in bkk either, but maybe work out cheaper too?

I'm not aware of any rental shops in Bangkok.

Better off buying one second hand if you want it for any length of time.

you can sell it on easily enough when you've finished with it or give it to your latest squeeze to look after for you.

Do you just want a little bike?

I have been stopped 3 times in over a year, I know where all the checks are though so I avoid them now. It is not that bad once you get to know your way around a little.

Riding about on a bike in Bangkok is a mug's game.

True, not for me though, I would expect to be dead by the end of the week. As Scamp probably would be which is why he will not end up getting a bike at all.

A bicycle is a better option than a motorbike.

I don't ride anywhere on my bike anymore apart from the area where I live, just to pop out and get some food or a dvd etc.. I have given up going anywhere that involves fast or big roads as it is just too dangerous, much more comfy to use the car even if it does take longer. And as Emp says, if you are going anywhere out of central BKK a bike is a pain because of the no expressways rule.

Theres not much an R1 wouldnt beat

You can pick up an okay 2nd hand m/c for 20k. Might be a better option.

Definately the best option if you going to be around for a few weeks. You can buy a nice little honda sonic for 25k. Then easily resell it for 20-21k. That or for a little less the suzuki raider, those are good buys.

You can get a little nissan micro car for 800 baht a day you can still use the footpaths to shortcut red lights and traffic jams because there so small but you get added aircon as a bonus.
The problem I found is sometimes the old GPS garmin streets Thailand V10 doesn't know if your if your on the motorway or on the sukhimvit if you have to drive somewhere new.

If you want a 100-125cc it's cheap, but anything bigger is much more expensive.
