Not untypical of the profession in my experience.

15 years ago was looking after a terminally ill friend at home in London. As I was out at work in the day so I arranged an agency nurse at over £150 a day (in 1991!!)to come in. When she arrived I asked her to administer the IV traetments through the Hickman line (i'd been trained to do this in 10 minutes in out patients). She couldn't/ wouldn't do it! I explained to her where the food was in the fridge to prepare his lunch. She couldn't / wouldn't do that either. Ended up getting a travelling hippy guy in from a classified ad in Time Out. Lived in and took care of the "day shift" for me for board and £150/month. Great cook and he learnt to do the IVs too.

On a related issue in the UK.......A dentist friend in the UK can no longer afford to continue with his NHS contract as to do so means operating at a loss on each patient, the NHS having unilaterally varied the terms of the contract several times in the last couple of years. His objection to continuing with NHS work is that to do so and break even or, god forbid, make a living, means compromising the level of care he's delivering to patients. He's not prepared to do that.

He cannot walk away though. He will lose his BDC licence if he dis-continues traeting existing patients. He's therefore obliged, on withdrawing from the NHS, to continue treating all patients currently undergoing a course of treatment FREE of CHARGE.

Put the filipinas on the first slow boat back to Manila!
