US Government to Offer Apology to American Indians

thought the ozzies followed the yanks .................

US Government to Offer Apology to American Indians
    February 16, 2008
    Florida Padilla - AHN

Washington, DC (AHN) - A resolution that will give a formal apology to American Indians for years of mistreatment and abuse is set to be finalized by the United States Senate at the end of the month.

The apology will be integrated into an Indian health care bill authored in 2004 by Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback.

USA daily reported Brownback hopes that his resolution will heal the wounds and will unite America after long years of division.

Brownback was quoted as saying, "For too much of our history, federal-tribal relations have been marked by broken treaties, mistreatment and dishonorable dealings," said Brownback, a Republican. "We can acknowledge our past failures, express sincere regrets and establish a brighter future for all Americans."

Reports say the resolution explained how the Indians were forced off and robbed of their tribal lands by the federal government.

The government has also admitted in the resolution how the Indians were affected by the "official depredations, ill-conceived policies and the breaking of covenants" by the federal government.

The amendment on the resolution citing Indian apology was integrated in the Indian health care bill by a voice vote last Thursday.

It seems to be the flavour of the month to apologise to indigenous folk.

    It's a little late now.

But thanks for the "sorry," Brownback.

Oh yeah, this is definitely political.

This has been in the works for quite some time I think. I recall reading something about it recently detailing the process.

^Yeah, the difference is that the US is smart enough not to give the Indians any legal standing to pursue legal causes of action based on the apology. I'm not sure about Australia, but think they are truly fooked. They should stay by America's side more closely in these matters.

What the fuck, they have had medical for the last 150 years, have had welfare for 150 years, no taxes and hunt and fish any time they want, got new homes built for them and they destroy them before the carpenters can even get their tools back in the box.
Go to town and buy a new car on time payments, never make a payment and then just keep it on the reservation and the bank can kiss their ass but not get any money for the car and can not repo it either.
Big Las Vegas style casinos on the res, make a million dollare a week and pay no tax,,
Fuck I wish someone would treat me bad like that say that the injuns is treated... Fuck me.
I got a cousin that was married to a Klamath Squaw, and he driving a 2005 Viper last I heard, but thats nothing, so is his wife.

^ Yeah, bunch of ingrates! Anyone would think they resented being driven off their lands and dropped in the middle of 'reservations'.

Ants are pervasive this time of year in Thailand but not particularly persuasive.

the very least the US govt. can do is apologize for the genocide perpetrated on the indigenous people of n. america.

and once they're done with that, it can move onto paying reparations to the descendants of the slaves.

    40 acres and mule!

btw, IMO the indians don't need direct reparations because they're getting theirs by cleaning out little johnny's college fund via the casinos.

^^^And Ray, I'm sure you're willing to pay that increase in taxes from your current 15% of earnings to 17%.

You man you. It's substantial taxpayers like you that make this all possible.

actually i think the taxes on dividends and capital gains should be significantly higher than they are currently.

of course that means less profit for me, but i recognize my obligations as a member of society.

It's another topic, but this will never happen.

    1. It'd be too expensive.

    2. Who gets money? How do we decide? How many generations should we go back.

Wealth usually only spans 3 generations, according to an Old Chinese proverb.

How do you figure out who was an actual descendant, who came here from Brazil,Puerto Rica or the Caribbean islands or directly from the old country.

Just because they be a darkie don't always mean that they was a slave of your grandpappys.

OH, you mean where I have to wait 12 hours in an emergency ward coz there's only one doc there? Or wait six months for an MRI? (talking about my sis, not me). How bout I pay my own private health insurance and lower my fekin tax rate coz I'm sick of paying for welfare bums? And I have to pay $54 a month for my FREE health care in Canada anyway. $54 is free? FO.
