The Berkeley City Council voted in the early hours of Wednesday to reverse its controversial declaration that U.S. Marine Corps recruiters were "unwelcome intruders" in the city.

Its vote last month to send a letter to a downtown recruiting station advising the Marines they were not welcome set off a furious backlash. Conservative lawmakers in Washington and Sacramento threatened to cut millions in funding to Berkeley in retaliation. In Wednesday's action, the council -- while affirming its opposition to the war -- decided not to send the letter and to state that recruiters were welcome.

"We failed our city," said Gordon Wozniak, who was one of three council members who voted against the original declaration. "We embarrassed our city."

On Tuesday, antiwar and pro-military activists faced off outside City Hall, protests that led to several scuffles and three arrests, police said.

So much for strength of convictions. When it threatens to cut their funding, their words are eaten.

as i posted ten days ago, this is a non story. it would be very interesting to know how many people have signed on the dotted line in the berkeley recruiting office over the last few years.

the city council is also to blame, because they should have just left well enough alone. if the recruiting center had moved to some place like oakland (or another socio-economically disadvantaged area) they might have actually suckered some kids into signing up. by and large the people in berkeley are too intelligent and too wealthy to join the military.

also, perhaps foxnews and the right wing talk radio hosts that manufactured this 'scandal' (and enraged the rubes on this forum) should direct their outrage at the fact that most likely there are more former marines living on the streets and under bridges than will ever sign up at the berkeley recruiting office.

I've studied Guevara in detail. It's apparent from your comments you haven't. Not revisionism, was merely curious as to how far you're prepared to go with your disigenuousity and/or wilful blindness. The answer to that's not surprising. Remember Boon, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

If you've studied Guevara in 'detail' then you can only describe him as a cold-blooded thug who was little more than Castro's personal hit man...

Get a little objective here, eh?

Not at all. Communism might be on the wane right now but it is still lurking back there waiting for the free market to acquiesce at some point i.e. socialized medicine, the Hildebeast's 'take for the better good' philosophy etc.

BTW, cheers for helping us make this thread a triple century...and more!

Well, folks, here we go with the latest chapter of what-all is going on in that lovely city by the bay. Too bad it's infested with Moonbats!

How would you like to make $160,000.00 USD per year seeking a solution for climate change? Eco-chic outa control or what?

I like the way he dots his capital letter "I"s. And the numeral one on the first line, too.

Very clever. Must have gone to the same community college as Ray Carey.

The ONLY way you could get me to protest anything.

Lots and LOTS of free beer. And after about the second hour I wouldn't be a very good model for your protest. Maybe that's why I'm never invited.

^The funny thing about your little pic there Booners...

It's, of course, from a blog. The self-aggrandising LGF in this instance. But this is where it gets strange, they posted it Feb 29th and captioned it as "from today’s moonbat tantrum outside the Marines Corps office". However when following the link through to the site they claim to have taken it from the last update avaliable is Feb 12th. Not only that but the picture isn't apparent anywhere on the Zombie site itself.

You really should learn critical thinking Booners.
