I know a couple of people who went on such a course... guess what, a complete waste of time, the only criteria for passing was sitting in a classroom for 20 hours, the Thai lecturers were unable to answer when questioned about Thai culture. For example they taught that Nong was used for younger people and Pi for older and became confused when asked if that ever varies. The course was 95% Filipinos it really doesn't seem to be a necessity for farangs to take it.

^^Do you think a Thai teacher teaching in a Catholic school in the UK would be required to learn and follow Catholicism or not?

Buddha isn't a god and buddhism isn't a religion - it's a moral code to live your life peacefully. I'm not religious but do believe that each human has a soul/spirit and the body dies but the spirit doesn't. Buddhism has more explanation than christianity which is a religion manipulated to control people and kill others. I hate the american christian fundamentalists.

I don't see a problem forcing people to respect the institutions of a country. If that means shooting pakis for complaining about Mrs Jenkins and her collection of ceramic piggy banks, good!

Did one a few years back

    Course went something like this.

Why are you in Thailand - Flippers say to make money, we say for women - wrong answer.
Can you write your name in Thai - no = we are not culturally aware.

    ...
Assistant director who attended the course whispers in my ear that he needs to go shopping for a bit. I jump at the chance and offer to drive leaving behind the other teachers we took there. Spend the day fannying about with the boss and hanging out on the beach.

repeat x 3 (remembering to sign in) and recieve a certificate.

The thai letters on my keyboard have nearly completely disappeared, they must add them on with biro or something like that. It's a logitech and the normal alphabet is still clear.

    As for NickA:
Do you think a Thai teacher teaching in a Catholic school in the UK would be required to learn and follow Catholicism or not?
    I don't think their intention is for non-Buddhists to convert . . . Storm in a teacup.

    Sorry Mr Hat
Did I make it a tad difficult for you? I was pointing out the stupidity of Whitey's words "They want farangs bowing to their false gods" Actually the article referenced in the OP only mentions "Showing respect to Buddha images" which whitey in his typical christian zealot mode turned into bowing to false gods. As a non Christian I also consider the effigies of a man being crucifierd as a common criminal to also be a false god, in much the same way as I also consider stained glass pictures of the so call trinity to be nothing more than an effigy to a false godhead. Yet when in Christian temples I am expected to, and actually do, show respect to the objects of worship that Christians have decided to use. I have been in such temples and been expected, nay almost forced, to dip my finger into a bowl of dubious quality water and annoint my body with it. Where is the difference in that to bowing ones head to a Buddha image?

Its about respect Mr Hat, if you and yours choose to worship the buttcrack of an aging buffalo as your godhead, then I may think you are as crazy as the christians, but I will still respect your godhead in your company, even if I do laugh my fcuking socks off when I am away from you

. . . and why are you being so aggressive and arrogant in your posts towards everyone?

And, by the way, I really had no idea what you wrote as your words were meaningless gibberish . . . but then your coherent polemic is just as bad.

(I've not heard of anyone being forced to dip their fingers in the holy water in church . . . )

Well it was written and aimed at those who claim to understand the bibberish in the King James Bible! Again, take a viespoint tat is diametrically opposed to that held true by christians and...

Now why would you see the need to put this statement in brackets?? Possibly because you and your kin are members of that which did the, ok not physical force, forcing. You do however, give yourself away as a catholic by your discription of that fetid water and 'holy', Ok thats your right as a catholic christian, please allow me my right as a non believer to think of it as it is, dank, old water!
