Salsa kitchen in chiangmai is pretty good.
Salsa kitchen in chiangmai is pretty good.

^Never tried Sunrise so can't compare. Next time I'm down that way I'll give it a try.

Had breakfast this morning at BBQ Hut in Patong, and ordered Huevos Rancheros. It wasn't a usual recipe but very tasty nonethless.
They served two fried eggs on top of soft corn tortillas, and put spicy beans, a folded flour tortilla and a salsa mix on the side. The salsa and beans were very tasty and authentic.
I'll try it for lunch or dinner one of these days and report back.
Ladyboy waitress so Butterfly would like it.![]()
It's been a couple of years, so the ladyboy must be a new addition. BWTF, one must appeal to the broadest market possible to survive in the restaurant biz.Originally Posted by chinthee

BTW, the BBQ ribs are a good choice for dinner. If you are so inclined to visit, would appreciate feedback from you on the new restaurant on Kalim Beach. Believe it's called the White Box and specializes in Mediterranean food. They were scheduled to open in November but may not have yet.

^Yeah, I saw that White Box (your old home I think, right?) advertised in Where to Eat and drive by it a lot. I'll try it one of these days.
Meanwhile, I did stop in at BBQ Hut for a Mexican Combo meal. I had a cheese and beef enchilada, Mexican rice, spicy beans (I guess this is supposed to take the place of refried beans), and a Burrito I think. The taste was pretty good for Thailand, but not really memorable. It could never compare to the most common place in LA, Denver or Albuquerque. I've never had Mexican in Thailand that was close to authentic. I'll go try Coyote on beach road and let you know if it's as good as the one in Bangkok.
Not sure when I'll get to Kata Sir Burr's recomendation.

There is also a place in Rawai, close to the gas station. It used to sell Indian food. It's now been taken over by a young American bloke. He sells Mexican, Brazilian and Cajun food. Can't remember the name of the place, but it does have a big sign.
I had tacos which were unlike any taco I'd ever had, but, bloody good and he does have avocado. Not cheap, but worth it IMHO.
Phuket - Veni Vidi Veni

Ok, so I admit it, I've been on a Mexican binge lately. Today, I had lunch at Coyote in Patong. My report:
Living also in BKK, I've probably eaten at Coyote on Convent 15 times or so. Well, Coyote on the beach road in Patong is just as good if not better.
I ordered my usual Enchilada Suiza, which is two corn tortilla enchiladas stuffed with chicken, guacamole, salsa sauce, frijoles, smothered in cheese, and Mexican rice and spicy beans on the side. Very yummy, though a big too long in the oven as the tortillas were a big crunchy.
Price: 395 Baht + two mid day happy hour frozen la casa Margueritas at 90 Baht each for a total of 605 Baht. I'm a fat, happy camper, with emphasis on fat.

I'm bladdy hungry now, but I've got to wait until about 6.30 before I get anything to eat.![]()
hey chitown,
as a fellow Chicagoan (west suburbs) & Dave Kingman fan, I must say I enjoy Miguel's-Cafe - Mexican Foods and Restaurant in Chiang Mai.
I ate there today for lunch, & the veggie burrito is out of this world, amongst their other burritos!
haven't eaten there yet, but noted!

I use Sabrosas in Tops on Thong Lor and prefer it to Sunrise.
It tastes like a proven, tried and tested product to me rather than Sunrise which always seemed to taste like someone has just experimented with a few ingredients and chucked it all together. I mean, asparagus in my burrito? WTF?
I'm doing fajitas tonight hence my interest in this thread.

There's one in Silom and there's two 24hr Sunrise Tacos near Soi 12 in Asoke.
Good luck with the fajitas. If they turn out to be delicious, post your recipe. If not, don't bother.Originally Posted by EmperorTud

I have to say one thing about Sunrise.......
Again my freinds talked me in to eating there and this time I reluctantly went with them and ordered the Chimichanga - it was great. If they twist my arm to go there again, that is what I will order. Deep fried with sour cream and cheese![]()
There you go. Mexican food needs to be simple to be good. Forget all the other stuff Sunrise tries to offer and keep it simple.Originally Posted by chitown
I feel very lucky because I have a Thai wife that also likes farang food. I have only gotten carry out from Sunrise Tacos before, so we decided to go the sit down restaurant across the street from their carry out store. Sunrise Tacos is located on Sukhumvit Road between Soi12 and Soi 13. They also have branches on the 5th floor of the Emporium Park Food Hall and the ground floor of Siam Paragon.
I can say that for me, dining in at Sunrise is better than carry out because the food is fresh on your table.

And ordered a steak chimichanga instead

Many of the waiters are from the Philippines, so ordering is a snap and the place is clean.

Of course we got chips and salsa - mild and hot!
