As per usual, first tapping session of the season, split is 50/50.
Then reverts back to the normal 60/40 split at the next sale.

Sold cup at auction yesterday, 29.55 baht per kg.

Sold cup at auction yesterday, 24.77 baht per kg.

No sale at auction this week, low output and incessant rains the last fortnight. Price was 25 something baht per kg.

BANGKOK, 11 July 2017 (NNT) – The Prime Minister affirmed that the government's efforts have been taken to address the sustained rubber price crisis and that the worst was over.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha asserted that rubber prices will adjust itself according to market mechanisms and other factors such as interest rates and oil prices. He noted that the government has already implemented aid measures for rubber farmers and associated businesses by providing special loans for the purchase of fresh rubber.

The aid measures also include extensions on loan repayment periods for agricultural institutes, the creation of a buffer to stabilize rubber pricing, and the establishment of rubber development funds to support entrepreneurs in the industry.

Farmers are also encouraged to cultivate other crops, especially those that can generate year-round income, as well as to adopt agricultural methods from model "Smart Farmers."

Gen Prayut said that despite the high demands for rubber in the global market, Thailand mainly exports raw rubber, whose pricing is subject to global price volatility. Therefore, he argued that innovation was required to create value-added rubber products. The government has also been promoting the use of natural rubber domestically, to reduce reliance on exports.

The premier claimed that the worst of the rubber price crisis has passed, as export figures and crude oil prices have started to recover. Natural rubber exports in the first five months of 2017 were valued at 2.83 billion US dollars, a 63.55 percent increase year on year. The export of processed rubber products, such as tire and rubber gloves, was valued at 4.07 billion US dollars, a 58.98 percent increase year on year. The export of rubber products is expected to continue growing due to the continuous demand in global markets.

Gen Prayut instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Rubber Authority of Thailand to raise awareness among farmers of the situation to allay concerns, and for the Ministry of Commerce to facilitate business negotiations and promote Thai rubber products in foreign markets, particularly in China, Latin America, Bangladesh, and Iran, as well as the domestic use of rubber.

We now have one of these auction sites, went and visited last week, some sort of co op.
It started some years ago and we paid the 500 BT to join, but the manager did a runner with all the cash.
It's back up and running and seems to be on the up and up, spoke to the manager, got pics taken, first farang and all that.

They do cassava and rubber, but only buy on a Tuesday for rubber, question.
From what I get, you weigh in on the Tuesday, auction is on the Wednesday, rubber is weighed again, sale price is then set.

Some of my workers and the wife are not happy with the water loss by waiting for weekly sales and having the wet rubber compressed under tons of other rubber.

It's a bit of a drive from us, say 500 Baht a trip [ fuel etc ] so what do you think, worth the effort, or just go with pick up from the gate.

Jim,
our local auctions seem to work slightly different.
Cup is delivered in sacks/bags the day before weighing and paying. Area is about 2 rai on private property. You turn up with your produce, lay it out neatly in a row (no bags on top of each other), get a laminated queue number on a stick and stick it into one of your sacks. Name and queue number, amount of sacks/bags noted by the auction people. Envelopes are opened around 1.30 - 2.00 in the afternoon for the winning bidder and price. So if you turn up before then (most try to, to get an early number) you don't even know the price you'll get the following day.
The next day, your number is called, bags are opened, weighed, chit issued and 20-30 minutes later you get paid out in cash.
Auction price is never less than 3 baht per kg MORE than a gate price and sometimes as much as 5 baht higher.
Auctions are fortnightly here, and only do rubber. Alternate weeks for sheet and cup.

Thanks Mike, I am going to have to go watch it being done, my Thai is not good enough when talking to these guys and what the wife translates is often more her filling in the blanks with what she thinks, not the facts.

And yes the price was 5 Baht a kilo above our local gate price on that day.

Worry? Not in my lifetime. In the far future ahead, possibly yes.
Europe and the US have been experimenting with dandelions for decades. As you may be aware, grab a dandelion, break the stalk and a white latex type liquid comes out. The problem being, in the West, land, and hence land prices is just too valuable.
Whereas, China is a huge country and would have no problem creating a dandelion field the size of Holland and Belgium combined.

Thx, Thaigguzzi. Since we just started tapping trees I have some question. How many kg did you get per tree in September? We got around 0.8 kg per tree. I'm aware of the rain in the last month. I just want to know, where we are in comparison.

Nevertheless this season its just practicing with some trees (1,300). Next year really counts. Sry for my English.

That number sounds like a Thai telling you good things not facts, form my burnt out menory. think the Thai average is just over 3 kilos per tree per year.

Been a long time since we opened trees, can't remember the output first year, but it wasn't much.

Mike {TG} may have kept some numbers, but going on per tree numbers is not how to calculate, some trees produce lots and other give little.

As I say, show me the money, that's what counts.

Rubber prices become stable and may rise over 70 baht this year

Rubber prices were expected to be more stable this year after Thailand has created a fund to stabilise rubber prices a month ago.

Rubber Authority of Thailand governor Titus Suksaard said rubber prices have stabilised after the creation of the fund with five major rubber exporters.

He said the fund has an initial 1.2 billion baht capital to buy rubber in the market and in rubber futures.

The buying since July has pushed up prices of Grade 3 smoked rubber sheets from 49 baht to 58-60 baht per kilogram.

Although the prices are not high but it indicated stable price increase, he said.

For rubber latex, he said the price is at 52 baht a kilogram.

But he was certain that rubber latex will become another benchmark price of rubber in the market as the rubber authority is planning to extend over 10 billion baht credits to manufacturers to buy rubber latex directly from farmers to produce rubber beddings.

He expected that over 100,000 tons of rubber latex would be absorbed from the market, thus pushing rubber prices to rise over 70 baht per kilogram this year.

Thx, James. The records are made by my wife and me. Financial controlling was my profession and the last years have been really hard training for the Thai family. Simple bookkeeping, number sense and understanding of profit & loss were missing. I changed that. The family has been in rubber business for several years (small amount of trees 1,300) Unfortunately there are no numbers from beginning. Nevertheless just wanted to compare the output figures. Our plantations are in the NE. Last year they started to work together with other growers to get better prices.

Only a typo. They have 1,200 trees and we started tapping 1,300 trees. (700 second year)
