    Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Dad said no need to fly back, it's just old age. He's so glad we saw her before we left. I only just recently got back in touch with my dad (and his mum/my other Nana). She's a funny old goat.

    She's 87.

My Mum's mum (whom I'm very close to) just celebrated her 95th birthday. I just wish them both happiness with the time they have left and ultimately, a painless, peaceful, ending to life.

Nothing else we can do, I suppose.

Today is Obon festival, so will be surrounded by family... might crack open the Tequila, my bros-in-law have never tried Tequila... hmmm I sense a cunning plan coming on.... will amuse myself, get up to mischief tonight heh...

Sorry to hear of your Nan's poor health.

As far as Japanese people having a go at me for the N-bombs, hasn't happened.

However, you will be seeing Uyoku dantai, Japan's right-wing nuts on occasion, parading around an area in their menacing looking vehicles and loud speakers going full blast. When I asked my husband what they were saying, told me to pay no attention to them, and definitely not to laugh at them. Apparently, they are gangsters in addition to being Nationalists.

They hate foreigners. Luckily, most all Japanese hate Uyoku dantai.

Sorry, not the best thread for the bad news.

    ^ Thanks Misskit.

I've never seen, or heard about the Uyoku dantai...very interesting...

On a lighter note... yesterday purchased some furniture for my house from a recycle shop (second hand)... will post up pics... see what you think...

    I think I got a bargain...

Oh, I've noticed TV's are very expensive here - strange, I thought they would be cheaper... was going to buy a nice 4k TV, but they are much more expensive than in NZ....

*I'll approximate the prices in Baht - for clarity...

Genuine leather sofa was 7,000 baht (original price was 36,000 baht)

*any trick you guys know to check if it's really genuine leather?

Fridge was 10k baht... 2015 Mitsubishi... new was double that price.

Washing machine (Sharp 5.5kg) was 4,800 baht... new 10k

Panasonic juicer (high-end) masticating not centrifugal was 2,000 baht
new was 10k baht... found a new one by chance (to compare the price) while I was looking at new TV's...

All in all, I think I got a good deal for 90,000 yen $1,100 NZ...well under budget.

I wouldn't touch 2nd hand shops in NZ... but the Japanese look after their stuff meticulously - so it's mostly immaculate condition (save for a scratch on the fridge).

Only thing I am reluctant to buy 2nd hand is a bed...for obvious reasons..

Oh, help me out guys... since TV's here are ridiculous expensive - am I insane to buy an old Sony Bravia 3d circa 2010 1080p (lol)...
or should I just suck it up, and buy new (4k)...

*this is it here... really good condition...bit small though 40" want at least 46-50" + as my living room is quite large. this is about 10k baht...

I don't wana spend too much on a TV as of yet...

look how expensive they are new, over 100k baht...

Put your nose right where the last owners arse cheeks have permanently embedded an imprint and tell us what it smells like.

Also sit on it naked like it appears the previous owner did when its hot you will stick to it if its not leather

Are you sure the last owner never died on there?

^ That was my arse print mate... 555

Leather or even if it's leatherette (is easy to clean)... so my jizz will wipe right off innit...

I can mop it up with some bread and butter...

    Advice on TV please!

cheap and cheerful - or blow a wad of cash on my dream machine?

I was researching that 4k only makes a difference up close... depends on how far you intend to sit away from the TV - in other words...

If ya have a 4K telli Richard ya need to feed that 4 K telli with a top quality feed to see the difference. Same as Blu-Ray players, ya need Blu-Ray DVD.

Give a 4 K telli the appropriate high top end feed and they are foking awesome. No high quality feed and they are the same as every other Telli innit.

Anyway Richard, smart move buying second hand stuff whilst ya gettin set up, good move.

    Onya Eh Dicky.

Yeah but that's a Sony mate. Those are 2x the cost everywhere. Half that of course would still be far too much though....so yeah.

What Terry said. They really aren't that useful yet. You need a 4K feed, which you can't download pirated anyway (the protections haven't been cracked)

Netflix has some stuff. Obviously 4K blu rays are nice if you want to spend the money on a player (or an Xbox One like I have).

I mean sure it looks nice but really not that different for the extra scratch. Just not useful enough yet. The content isn't prevalent enough.

Agreed. The caveat would be that I would try for at least a 50" minimum (more like 55" if possible)

50 " tellies are so yesterday.

Got to go large, as large as ya wallet can afford.

Been some real nice deals on 70 " HD Smart TV's in BKK lately.

Bang around the joint and it's game on.

Waiting for my 50" to pop its clogs but unfortunately it will go forever.

I feel like right now price wise 55" is kind of the sweet spot.

But you're right, the big ones are going down and down.

65" especially is starting to be in the ballpark of what's affordable.

    Yep,

65's are very affordable and the 70's are still a tad up there.

Give it a few more months and 70's will be the price of 65's.

Unfortunately this does not help Richard, things may be cheaper in Pan Head land but big fok off Telli's are not.

    Sorry Dicky.

Konichawa or what ever the fok that means.

    ^ smart ass is right...

Some... hell, perhaps even most things (compared to Auckers) are cheaper here... "some" fruit and certainly TV's are not among them..

I thought I was a clever Dicky... how come I didn't know TV's were so expensive here?

Oh, they don't have Samsung...even uttering the name gets you deported... and forget about Chinese shit...

I embarrassed, haven't updated my 'quam roo' knowledge about TV's... I know Sony used to be the best (like 100 years ago)... Sammy has taken over the market... apparently the Japanese don't even compete internationally anymore - they just sell their over-priced TV's to the suckers domestically... fug me ey?

Oh well... I'm in the market for a 2nd hand telly then... don't tempt me Terry, I'm an electronic nut, I will buy the biggest, baddest mudder fooker if yer tempt me...

So... If you were me (god forbid) living in nippon land, what 2nd hand TV (spec) would you try to get your flippers on then?

Sony Bravia? 40 inch is too small innit... hmmm... help!

^ Smug barsteward with his 50" 4k TV bought for next to nothing... ahhhh!

Oh well.. I got me $1 Sushi train... 555

In the US, you can get a wicked 4k TV for under $500! not that much more in NZ (from memory)...

I was swaggering over here thinking they'd be 2 for the price of 1, or giving them away with dolphin happy meals...
