Taxi driver detained for punching foreigner in the face

Taxi driver detained for punching foreigner in the face

A taxi driver in Pattaya was arrested by police after he was seen punching a foreigner in the face.

The 40-year-old foreigner whose identity remains unknown fell to the ground unconsciously after he was punched in the face by the taxi driver Anand Boontang.
The incident happened before midnight last night (Aug 10) in front of White Rose hotel on Pattaya 2 road in Pattaya.

He stayed at the scene until the police arrived and detained him for questioning.
The foreigner was helped by passers-by to rest on the sidewalk and later was rushed to nearby hospital by rescue workers as he was unconscious.

Mr Anand told police that as he was driving his passenger on the road, the foreigner came out from the sidewalk blocking and started hitting his car.

As he came out of the taxi to talk to the man, the foreigner grabbed him by the collar, prompting him to punch him in the face once.

Police said they have not yet charged the taxi driver pending the recovery of the foreigner for information.
But they said they would check surveillance cameras in the areas to ensure justices for both sides.

I wonder who the passenger was? A bargirl involved with the foreign man, maybe? More information is needed before you can pass judgement on who was right and who was wrong. Hitting a taxi and grabbing the driver by his shirt collar seems like a good reason for the driver to punch the foreigner. Was the foreigner drunk? The way the article is written it sides with the foreigner. If someone hit my car and grabbed me by the collar I'd react in a similar way. Not sure what this article is trying to say.

Why is the foreign man bare foot?

I note there is a medical centre directly opposite and only metres from where he was laying unconscious flat on his back.
Why someone from there did not attend to the man is very disturbing.

I'm rather in the camp that says this.

The drunken Chav scum received exactly what he deserved.

I salute that Thai Taxi driver.

Top work and he should be promoted to Prime Minister.

You always see many farangs crossing the road as if they are back home, ie. walking out as if they expect all cars to stop immedietely like it's their right. Seen it many times. They don't realise this is a 3rd world country with a cheap attitude to life.
So it is believable that some farang do as the article says he did. Sometimes pedestrian rage can be as inane as road rage.

I reckon a few people saw Johnny foreigner make a spectacle of himself and he'd probably been drinking for some time sat outside the hotel.

Why can't we hear more about these young middle eastern quality tourists getting beaten up?

    Because Muslims don't drink alcohol.

Are you a naive newbie to the LOS, or just living in some Disneyland world, called Thailand?

bviously, you both haven't spent much time, either in the Muslim world, or the general Middle East vicinity.

More BS from you. While Europeans and Americans often forget that Thais drive on the left, they generally have a far better sense of self preservation than the average Somchai, who has been unaware of the presence of anyone outside his immediate family since he was three years old and in any case is sure that if he gets killed he will be reincarnated as a member of the aristocracy.
