Might be cheaper and easier to have some made up.
Otherwise there is always ebay ...
Set Blades lawn mowing lawnmower mower compatible STIGA 1134-9074-02 L=170 mm | eBay
Get a gardener. They're cheap and therapeutic
I've asked around but I've been told that the blades can only be made out of hardened steel the same used in knife manufacture. They say no one around her does that work.Originally Posted by Chittychangchang
I've looked on Ebay and the postage to Thailand is way more than the blades cost. I've not given up looking yet and have found one supplier that has similar blades but they're shorter.
I'd like to get the correct size of blade as it will assist in the discharge of the grass cuttings.
As for getting a Thai to do my gardening. I wouldn't let one walk my fcuking dog. They'd break it.
Why?Originally Posted by Pragmatic
Surely you could use lower grade steel but just need to get the blades sharpened more often.
I bought the wife a sewing machine yesterday off an Aussie.Originally Posted by Pragmatic

Fair dinkum
That is something I couldn't understand also. You don't really need a cutting edge as the blade is only 2mm thick. It's the speed in which it rotates that does the cutting. I may try again and try and find someone who will knock a pair up in mild steel just to see if there is a difference.Originally Posted by CSFFan
One can only try.
I can get the missus to knock you up some sweat bands
I doubt they'd work. Metal would be better.Originally Posted by Dillinger

I realise that but no fcuking metal worker worth his salt wanted the job of doing it for me.Originally Posted by petercallen
One said he'd do it in mild steel but he won't accept responsibility if shit happens. I can't see 'shit happening' so I'll have to get him to knock me up a couple o' pair.
Just get them made out of old leaf springs, they should last forever and can be sharpened to what ever level you want. The speed of the motor should whack the grass anyway even if you don't grind them down to even half sharp.
I'm limited by the blade thickness of 2mmOriginally Posted by Eliminator
I can. Spinning a hand formed machete from a gasoline engine with probably zero balance sounds interesting.Originally Posted by Pragmatic
Wear shin guards
Anyway, I heavily doubt thats made from hardened steel. Its gonna be mild.
Id buy a pair & import it.
Yeah quenching, but also warps.Originally Posted by petercallen
Not really aimed at you Slick but why the fcuk should I? Honda sells the mower in Thailand so therefore should sell the blades. The fcuking wankers. Last time I buy Honda.Originally Posted by Slick
They have to be sharpened otherwise they just tear the grass off and can also damage the roots by pulling at them.
Hense the issue of buying anything "good" in Thailand. Stuff like oil filters & small engine stuff can be found locally, easily, cross compatible, but specific stuff not so much. Most of the "good" stuff I buy, I have to do a real good check on availibity of spares.
Another reason I only drive Honda & Toyota cars & trucks.
Can you see any model or part numbers? Cause it's extremely unlikely those are made specifically for Honda.

They've rounded themselves off at the end and the airfoil part of the blades is completely gone resulting in difficulty discharging grass out the back.Originally Posted by Slick
I have a Makita back-up mower but it's not power driven and my grass covers about 1 rai. Things are getting difficult.
Good excuse to buy one of those sit on mowera
Yeah I've thought about it but in reality chasing a lawnmower, once a week, ain't that bad. Takes me about 2 hours non-stop. With a non power driven one I'd do it over a couple of days if the grass is wet and long.Originally Posted by Dillinger
What model is the mower? Is it HRJ 216?

Unless you have the ability to case harden* using case hardening compounds, then no amount of heat treatment will increase the hardness of mild steel, due to its low carbon content (hence why it is called mild steel). Also these processes just harden the surface of the steel, so the next time you sharpen the blade you have just ground through the surface hardness of the steel.
* Other more exotic methods such as Nitriding would also achieve the same result.
