Help! Washing Machine pipe..

the connecter from the tap to the washing machine broke the other day so I thought I'd try and fix it.

I need to get this:

attached to this.

Went to a DIY shop and got something that looks exactly like the one that is broken (just not broken), but when I attach it, water goes everywhere..

I'm obviously doing something very wrong, but what?!

Those things are a pain in the ass.

Spin off the entire valve so you can hold it in your hand.

Press the new plastic piece into the valve hard as fuck with the other hand, then start to screw the 4 screws on the side.

Just gotta press it into the valve real hard & tighten the screws. Thats it.

And make sure the rubber gasket thingy is snug.

Just realized the way I wrote this makes it sound like you need 3 hands

I did it the other day & pinned the valve in a corner by the sink & pressed the plastic piece into it. Then tightened the screws.

I usually use a valve like this one - 1/2"

I mean a valve like this one used in combination with your replacement washing machine part.

Had the same thing happen a while back.

Do not, I repeat, Do Not let the local motosai taxi rider/handiman try to repair it.

You will only have to fix it yourself, and rebuild the entire wall.

Armstrong. Do you use the "other" tap?

Eyeball the washing machine hose to determine if it is 1/2 or 3/8 inside diameter.

Go to hardware store and buy a tap/faucet with threads for a hose pipe. This is 3/4 yours maybe 1/2 it will be written on it.

Then buy the requisite hose pipe connector and a suitable hose clamp. Buy large and small if not sure.

Take original tap/faucet off the blue plastic pipe. and replace with the new one.

Cut existing widget off the washing machine hose and replace with the hosepipe connector and hose clamp.

Voila.

A jubilee clip is a cheap, quick and effective way to keep the plastic pipe attached to the tap.

Pragmatic, that's exactly how I managed to fit mine too.. hose pipe attachment to tap, clamp on to that attachment... works much better than trying to get the bugger to attach evenly (therefore leak-free) to the actual tap!

Attach the washing machine pipe clamp bit to the hose pipe attachment first, then screw that lot to the tap and the clip in the washing machine hose.. I also had to bulk out the rubber washer using two instead of one as the ribs on the hose pipe attachment were slightly in the wrong place for the screws.

The whole process only took 2 very creative shopping trips to the DIY shop, lots of profanity, sweat and effort to stop it from spraying water everywhere.. but once mastered, can be repeated

Pic of how I do mine. I use this specific valve every time. Has a little flair on the neck. Copied the system from a self service laundry place years ago.

I also have a pretty good Hitachi 250 constant pressure pump and no leaks.

Just gotta push it hard into the valve & screw it down. You can see the marks in the valve neck from the screws.
