There's a walking street which sells food and other knick-knacks

More seafood on ice. Kaohsiung is a port city and lots of seafood in the markets. The resto can cook your seafood for you.

Group of western backpackers. Backpackers weren't as numerous as in Th, Laos, Cambo or Vn, but I did see a few. In my travels, the least number of backpackers that I've were in Seoul, SK - probably because Korea is known to be expensive.

Store preparing the noodle soup for my lunch

I had 2 ladies from HK as my lunchmates, and these were their soups. One had udon noodles, the other had glass noodles.

Late afternoon, I decided to go to the Sanduo shopping district and nearby Singuang ferry port. This is the Sanduo shopping district.

The MRT station is inside a mall, and I saw this model having her photo taken.

Outside the mall, there were these "teletubbies" promoting Persil fabric conditioner.

After a short walk and being pointed to the right direction, I came across Kaohsiung Exhibition Center. It's designed to look like an undulating wave.

From that vantage point, you can also see the 85 Sky Tower, which is the highest building in Kaohsiung, but not in Taiwan. The highest building in Taiwan is Taipei101.

Singuang ferry port and nearby park... very pleasant to be there in late afternoon

Sunset pic - some ships in the distance. I didn't get nice pink twilight clouds, but it was very relaxing to feel the sea breeze.

Kaohsiung has a tram line, but only for a few stations.

Walking back to the MRT station, I saw this pie shop. Loytoy, this is for you. PM sent!

Haha.. yeah. They are very safety-conscious there. Along the highway, I saw some cops waiting to arrest people for drunk-driving. They're mindful of traffic rules - cars & motorbikes stop for pedestrians. I think it's the Japanese influence. Tw was under Jp rule for ~50 years. It's very organized, similar to SG, but not as expensive.

^Heh... I only bought the ordinary, small (~2 inches) round pineapple cakes, not the "special" elongated ones. Those "special ones" cannot be considered as acceptable gifts for one's mom, family and friends. haha...

Ok, back to posting pics, if my net allows. My next city was Tainan, which is the old historical capital of Taiwan, before it was changed to Taipei. Tainan is in the southwest portion of Taiwan.

    Tainan train station

What I liked about Taiwan is that in most main cities, they have a visitor info center. They have maps in diff languages and have English-speaking staff who can help you.

Upon exiting the train station, you'll see a rotunda/roundabout

There's a large motorbike parking area at the side of the station

It was almost lunchtime when I arrived, so I had a feed before sightseeing.

Prices of food in that eatery - it was near my hotel, which was near the train stn. I always picked accoms near the train or MRT station. Hotels were most pricey in Taipei & Kaohsiung, the top two major cities. The other cities were more of provincial cities, so not too expensive, similar to most countries - it's more expensive in the capital.
