British tourist falls to death from guesthouse in Walking Street

At around 4:30am in the early hours of April 14th, a British tourist died after falling from the third floor of a guesthouse on the world famous Walking Street in South Pattaya.

Police and emergency services arrived onto the scene to find 31-year-old, Mr. Christopher Andrew Laidler, from England, lying seriously injured in the street, struggling to catch a breath, but still alive. He had fallen from the Sweet Heart guesthouse, which is also home to the Sweet Hearts agogo underneath.

Emergency treatment was carried out by the paramedics at the scene, before declaring it safe enough to transport the body to a local hospital for further treatment.

Unfortunately, the extent of the injuries suffered were too much, and Mr. Laidler passed away a short time later in hospital.

It is still unknown what caused the victim to fall in the first place. The body was found naked on walking street, but after police had searched his room, they concluded that there were no signs of any struggle. They also noted that all of the victim’s belongings remained untouched, which suggested that Mr. Laidler may have been on his own at the time of the fall.

Police took witness statements from several tourists, who said they were shocked when they suddenly saw a man land straight in front of them, hitting the ground with a loud thud.

Police are also piecing together all the other bits of evidence they can find, in an attempt to solve the case.

CCTV footage will be reviewed and interviews have been planned with staff from the guesthouse where the victim had be staying.

Happy New Year! – Thai revelers welcome Songkran with some fisticuffs

A video at a Songkran celebration in Nakhon Phanom on the banks of the Mekhong River in north eastern Thailand shows about ten people having a fist and feet fight. From the looks of the video, it seems to be more like a 10-1 scenario, not something that would surprise any of us here.

The celebration was barely two hours old when the fight erupted in front of a stage where “look thung” (country singers) were performing.

A man with chest tattoos who appeared drunk seemed to start the melee, said Manager reporting the incident. It seems that alcohol and Songkran don’t mix too well and I’m sure this certainly won’t be the last incident of fighting we here about over the festive period.

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries during the scuffle and police, along with local officials arrived just in time for the crowd to disperse and there were no reports of arrests.

Drunk as a skunk – Thai driver ushers in Songkran 2017

Hopefully it is not a sign of things to come – the antics of a drunk driver caught on tape got the Thai online world commenting as the Songkran holidays began.

Three clips posted to the “Mem Pho Dam” social media page showed a Thai drunk driver crashing into a parked car. Then seemingly oblivious to what he has done he continues swigging his preffered choice of beverage in his pick-up’s cab, said reports.

He finally emerges and passes out on the sidewalk.

Later police and insurance agents arrive. Police were struggling to make out anything that was coming out of the man’s mouth, but the think he was trying to claim works for a member of parliament, although no one is really buying his incoherent ramblings.

He is finally led away to the police station where he will be charged accordingly, once he had sobered up, of course.

Thais online said it really is time for people like this to lose both their car and their bike license – and the authorities should have the power of Article 44 to do it. The only problem there is, that there is a good chance he doesn’t even have one in the first place.

Two ladyboys arrested for robbing Australian tourist on Pattaya Beach Road

Tourist police have arrested two ladyboys who stole a wallet belonging to an Australian tourist as he walked along Pattaya Beach Road, in the early hours of this morning.

Police heard how Bruce Lauchie McCown, 34, was approached by the two ladyboys just after 5am on Thursday morning. Originally, all was good, with some general chit chat talking place. Who knows what they were discussing?

The ladyboys started hugging Mr McCown, which is a tell tale sign they are after your possesions, and is probably when they managed to steal his wallet containing 16,000 baht from his pocket.

Before Mr McCown realised what had happened the pair quickly fled.

However, the Australian tourist was able to alert nearby tourist police who arrested the ladyboys a short time later.

The two ladyboys identified as Chaiwat Sriwanit, 24, and Thanatcha Saengsan, 21 confessed to police are currently being held by Pattaya police, and will be charged for their crime accordingly.

Violence erupted not once, but twice, in Ayutthaya on Thursday night when revellers sprayed bullets instead of water during the festivities.

Four people from Bang Sai district were hurt by gunshots fired by another group of youths as they celebrated the Thai new year at Wat Phu Khao Thong, a popular venue in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district of the province, about 7.30pm, Ayutthaya police reported.

Two hours later, members of another youth gang shot at rivals in a parking area of the Ayutthaya Park shopping centre in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya used for a Songkran party. Seven people were injured, police said.

    Fitting conclusion to this.

Greedy bargirl’s iPhone ransom plot backfires

A greedy Pattaya bargirl who held an Apple iPhone 7 she found ransom for 5,000 baht was arrested for theft and forced to pay 50,000 baht to get out on bail.

Saifon Moonjan, 45, thought she’d make a little money off the forgetful misfortune of 34-year-old Neungruthai Naka, who left her smartphone at a 7-Eleven April 7. But her scheme backfired when the pregnant younger woman and her Omani husband refused to pay ransom for a 30,000-baht smartphone they probably otherwise would have given a grateful reward for.

The Chaiyaphum hostess shouted at police who arrived at her Soi Buakhao beer bar that she didn’t steal the phone, but felt entitled to a reward, as the Apple smartphone was expensive.

To be sure no one grabbed it from her, Saifon turned off the phone and stuck it in her underwear.

She claimed she had many police friends that would back up her demand for the 5,000 baht.

Police, who regularly suggest that loss victims reward the finders, weren’t in such a charitable mood when faced with the stroppy bar maven. They told Neugnruthai they’d arrest Saifon for theft if she wanted. The mother-to-be was reluctant, but unable to convince the older woman to return her property, she acceded.

Suddenly, it was Saifon’s freedom up for ransom. Police strapped on the cuffs, snatched back the phone and tossed the extortionist into the slammer where she had to wait for family members to come up with 50,000 baht surety to spring her.
Saifon was due in court April 10 and faces a fine of up to 6,000 baht and up to three years in prison if found guilty of the “theft at night” charge.

Traffic cop defends video-captured ‘hi-so’ traffic stop

A traffic cop said he was only doing his job when he stopped and breathalyzed a woman driving a 4-million-baht sports coup in Pattaya after a video of the traffic stop went viral.

Pol. Col. Siraphudej Chamnankit explained to reporters April 5 that the woman driving the BMW Z4 convertible sports coupe who he stopped on Beach Road near Walking Street two days earlier had been drinking before driving.

Her blood-alcohol level, however, at 0.039 percent, below the legal limit of 0.5 percent. She was released, but not before giving the officer an earful of grief.

“This is nonsense, I just wanted to go out and eat rice soup. This country has many problems. Police are too serious. I drank very little. If you want no one to drink, why are pubs and bars allowed to open in Pattaya?” The presumably wealthy woman said.

In the video, Siraphudej is heard calmly explaining the reasons for alcohol checkpoints and laws prohibiting driving while intoxicated.

The video clip garnered plenty of comments from online users, most of them criticizing the “hi-so” driver in her 4-million-baht car for thinking she was better than others and exempt from the law.
Siraphudej told reporters he wanted to tell his side of the story, saying police must be vigilant against drunk driving, particularly around Songkran, and that officers try to act calmly and politely to even rude drivers.

If he'd fallen accidentally then he'd hit the canopy over the bar entrance. Then got tangled in the mass of electric cables. Looks to me that he jump out and away from the building or was thrown with some force. Still I'm guessing he was drunk and went for a smoke outside, maybe peed off the top stood on the balcony wall?

Anyways, here's some google street views of the bar.

I don't claim to be a medical expert, but I imagine if someone is having breathing difficulties after a fall, chest compression for CPR is NOT what should be done.
