War weapons seized from red-shirt leader Ko Tee’s company in Pathum Thani

Military and police seized a substantial cache of war weapons in a raid of a company belonging to former red-shirt leader Wutthipong Kotthammakul, alias Ko Tee, in Lam Look Ka district of Pathum Thani Saturday morning.

The seized illegal weapons included several M16 assault rifles, an M79 grenade launcher and a large quantity of ammunition.

Informed military sources said that the officials invoked Section 44 to search Thai Max Group Company, located in Village 6 in Tambon Khu Kot, Lam Look Ka district, which was owned by Ko Tee, a former red-shirt leader who was believed to be behind violent attacks of anti-government protesters over three years ago.

Ko Tee who was wanted on several criminal charges has escaped the country.

Lt-Gen Apirat Kongsompong, commander of the First Army Region, said Saturday that he was awaiting for a report from investigators regarding the real motive of those who store the war weapons and whether they are the same group of people who made threats against Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.

During the raid, the officials arrested a caretaker of the company, identified as Thirachai Udonchien who admitted that he received the weapons from Ko Tee’s community radio station some time ago.

But officials suspected there might be more weapons hiding somewhere by Ko Tee’s gang.

Didn't the guy flew Thailand 3 years ago or so ? Strange to let so many military weapons stored at home knowing you're a wanted man, if I were him I would have made arrangement to see the weapons removed. Great news that the Army and Police managed to find them 3 years later...

More importantly might be to ask what's the difference between legal and illegal weaponry?

So much of the population cannot naturally distinguish, or recognize, the difference between the good guys and bad guys - as it plays out quite often within societies worldwide.

Err, well, you see Jeff, legal weaponry is what we call A-L-L-O-W-E-D by the law while illegal weaponry is what we call N-O-T A-L-L-O-W-E-D by the law. For further information please re-read the previous sentence.

It looks like he was living well on his rubber recycling business but then the climate in Thailand became too hot for him.

Police alleged Ko Tee’s gang plotted to assassinate government leaders

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan have been targeted for assassination by a group of men associated with leading red-shirt figure in Pathum Thani, Wuthipong Kotthammakul, alias Ko Tee, said Pol Maj-Gen Sombat Milinthachinda, deputy commissioner of First Region Provincial Police Bureau, at a press conference on Sunday.

The press conference was also attended by Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, the national police chief, Pol Gen Srivara Rangsipromnakul, the national deputy police chief, and Department of Special Investigation director-general Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang.

War weapons seized from Ko Tee’s company in Pathum Thani a day earlier were shown at the conference. They include four M16 assault rifles, one M79 grenade launcher, one M2 carbine, one shotgun and five different types of guns together with about 5,000 rounds of ammunition. Three red-shirt flags were also seized.

Nine suspects were held in military custody for questioning. Their identities were not disclosed.

Pol Gen Chakthip told the press conference that the raid of Ko Tee’s company in Pathum Thani and search of a container yard in Samut Prakan followed an intelligence report that elements linked to Ko Tee were storing up illegal arms to stage violent incidents during the siege of Wat Dhammakaya early March.

He noted that the rifles mounted with telescope were definitely not meant to “shoot birds” but to shoot people or government leaders.

He disclosed that attempt to arrest Ko Tee who is believed to be hiding in a neighbouring country has not been successful due to lack of cooperation.

Pol Maj-Gen Sombat alleged that Ko Tee and his associates had used social media to attack the government and to incite anti-government sentiments among Dhammakaya followers during the temple’s siege. He claimed that one of the nine suspects held in military custody was spotted among Dhammakaya followers during the siege.

Sombat claimed that the seized war weapons were intended for use to assassinate government leaders and that Ko Tee’s network had undertaken activities deemed defaming the Monarchy.

Ko Tee claims he was framed

Ko Tee denied that the war weapons seized from his company in Pathum Thani did not belong to him, saying that he would have used them to stage attacks long time ago.

Speaking via YouTube, Wutthipong Kotchammakhun or Ko Tee, claimed that he was framed up by the police, saying that, while he was still in Thailand, he had always slept at his community radio station and rarely slept at home or his company in Klong Luang district of Pathum Thani.

He said he had left the country for almost three years and didn’t understand why he was still subjected to injustice and false charges.

The core red-shirt leader in Pathum Thani said he had sympathy for his men who were rounded up by the authorities despite the fact that they had nothing to do with the war weapons.

Then why are they still alive ? Not a single red leader was shot other than Sah Daeng and it is very likely that was by his own side, yet as you point out they all made great targets.

3 years to find the stack in a wanted man home, I think this finding is convenient and timely.

But the assassination plot against the Junta head is scary, specially when you think how Thai people love him (as opinion polls regularly prove it ), this news is susceptible to generate support for the dear Junta chief (but he didn't need it, did he?)

As if this assassination were a mean to reach whatever goal redshirts are seeking? Imagine the possible outcomes of such a stunt? Army returning to the barracks wouldn't be among them

How do you know the weapons have been there for 3 years ?

Reading the reports in the BKK Post the caretaker has said the weapons were delivered to the address, although a date wasnt mentioned it seemed to be quite recently. It was also mentioned that the army acted on a tip off presumably that they had been taken there.

So if away for 3 years maybe the caretaker is the one involved, unless the landlord planned to come back anytime soon (considering the charge against him I doubt about it) or is the sender of the weapons there're reasonable doubts he isn't part of this play

The link with the Dammakhaya current and the assassination plot disclosure make the story sounds dodgy, authorities need to investigate thoroughly (with substantial evidences) or else the "culprits" will be released (again) a few years later (spent in jail) but this generally doesn't make it to the headlines...

Probe intensifies to find out if politicians and officials were involved in assassination plot

Police are investigating whether the nine suspects arrested along with the seizure of a large cache of war weapons from Ko Tee’s company in Pathum Thani last week are linked to any politicians, police or military personnel, Pol Col Krisana Pattanacharoen, deputy spokesman of the Royal Thai Police Office, told the media on Monday.

While insisting that the seizure of a substantial cache of war weapons was not staged, he said police have been monitoring Ko Tee or Wutthipong Kotthammakul and his men for quite a long time and found out that they were engaged in activities to discredit the National Council for Peace and Order and to incite unrest in the country via the social media.

He alleged that the group, including those arrested, was linked to the plot to assassinate government leaders and was behind the acts to disrupt recent attempts by officials to search the Dhammakaya temple.

When asked whether Ko Tee is taking refuge in a neighbouring country, Pol Col Krisana said he prefer not to mention any country, adding, however, that officials concerned had been coordinating with their foreign counterparts to have the fugitive deported or extradited to face charges in Thailand.

Regarding the seized weapons, he said some of them were recently acquired and the rest were stored up some years ago.

The deputy spokesman went on saying that the police would bare all about the group and its illegal activities at the right timing.

National police chief Pol Gen Chaktip Chaijinda insisted on Sunday that the seizure of military-grade firearms was linked to moves at Dhammakaya Temple and red-shirt networks.

This pic is a bit better I think. Dunno if its been posted but thats actually some very much valid and effective firepower if someone wanted to do damage.

I'm sure if Ko Tee, really wanted to kill innocent civilians, like the good general 55+, he'd only need to join the army - to fulfill that fantasy... head shots/lethal force are always on their agenda (think back to 2010-11)...

I will give him my collection of guns, if he promises to send Prayut's brainless head to me in a basket...
