You keep staying things like this, but that does not mean its true. The whole situation is fucked up, starting with the original Obamacare.

Do you even understand how fucking expensive this healthcare.gov insurance is for a person like myself?

You are extremely susceptible to confirmation bias, Harry. Drop 100 links in reply and it wont matter. There is no 'winning' in this argument.

Yeah but those are not the choices. I think you may be taking your political cartoons literally.

As usual you are getting way ahead of yourself, nothing concerning healthcare has passed. I believe when it is all set and done you will be wiping massive amounts of egg off your face.
You're quietly shitting yourself about the possibility of cuts, eh RPETER?

Why do you think so many politicians are shitting themselves as well?

Because (well, if you last long enough for it to matter), they might lose your vote if they pass Trumpcare.

I'm quite aware of the flaws in Obamacare you silly boy.

The main reason it is not working as it should is down to it being sabotaged by Republicans both in Washington and at state level.

And the Health Insurance companies whinging about actually having to pay sick people and pulling out.

You really don't have much of a clue what goes on in your country, do you?

    You're quite gormless really.

Especially if you think the Republicans are going to fix it!

The main reason why it isn't working is because there is no money in it. These companies are leaving because the insurance is too expensive for healthy people to buy, and when you only have sick people buying in the money is not there. These aren't charity organizations, they are for profit companies. Of course they are going to leave when they aren't making money, why wouldn't they?

I've been with a different insurance company every year since Obamacare started. Every single one has gone out of business the following year. Three companies. We had 8 carriers to choose from in my huge metropolitan county last year for 2016 plans. This year? One. Read it and weep. One company to "choose" from. A total monopoly over an area consisting of millions and millions of people. No where to run, no where to hide. Our premiums rose an astounding 116% per person in my state year on year 2016 to 2017.

    The Republicans didn't do that.

This is where you get hung up. You are totally fixated on Republicans 'breaking everything'.

For this statement to be true, Democrats would have to be clean. They're not. This wasn't going to work from the beginning, and was bullshitted and lied about hardcore by Democrats, just to get it to gain support & pass.

You have a thing for Republicans, and that is the root cause of your constant confirmation bias on every political issue regarding the USA, take that, multiply it with being English, and you wont ever understand the motives Americans have for doing what they do. Because you will never understand these things, its much easier in your simple mind to call people 'gormless' and 'ignorant'. The only one lacking any sense in any of this little exchange is you for thinking you can explain away, in a couple stupid insults, why things are like they are.

Why would I be shitting myself about cuts, cuts in exactly what are you talking don't?

Cuts in healthcare coverage: Won't effect me.
Cuts in social security benefits:If I relied on social security I wouldn't own and support homes on two different continents. Not to mention flying back and forth every year.
Cuts in Medicare: Won't effect me.

You see Harry I didn't spend my life drunk behind a keyboard in the sand pit,I worked, saved ,invested ,and prepared myself for retirement, which by the way started at age 59.So I suggest you spend your time worrying about yourself.

My biggest worry right now is that Korea blows up before I fly through there on my way back to wine country in the beautiful state of Washington.

Not everyone has the means to do this, but no other plan makes sense. Not a dime of social security should be factored into anyone's future plans if at all possible.

But seriously health care is complicted in spite of what some say. No matter what plan is put into law it will fail unless the high cost of medical care is addressed. Obamacare failed to address it and of course insurance rates climbed. Until the cost of hospital stay and pharmaceuticals are substantially lowered, health care will remain unaffordable no matter if private insurance or single payer government.

Any politician suggesting that gov mandate these costs would face the wrath of the AMA and pharmaceutical lobbies. A carreer ending move for sure.

Totally agreed man, you are 100% spot on. The elephant in the room was ignored and the system will remain lousy until it is confronted.

Enjoying Chris Wallace showing Ryan CBO stats that a 64 yr old on $26.5k a year will go from paying $1900 for healthcare to $14,600.

Ryan is now busily trying to trash the CBO.

    Naturally.

    So fucked, I love it.

This is not correct. With single payer the government can set the prices and the insurance companies will be history along with their massive profit margins.

Insurance companies do not want to pay for sick people to get treated.

They want them to die or heal themselves.

And if they can't get their money that way, they simply hike their premiums.

This is the single biggest obstacle to universal health care in the US.

The insurers should be abolished. Which is precisely why they pay politicians so much money to ensure that never happens.

It is the only path forward. It is inevitable especially if they pass this shit bill. I hope they do it. 2018 will be a major correction.

it will be interesting to see what the electoral consequence might be in '18 and '20 if they somehow manage to pass this bill....at this point i don't see how they get it through the senate, but it's still early days yet.

Ill put this reply here as its more on-topic in this thread.

If you are working and living overseas, your case should be a no brainer. You should look into this.

Let me know if you can't find the info. Pretty sure I have the exemption form you file for this saved somewhere.
Yep Ive been claiming it for almost 10 years, whenever I can. The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion; Physical Presence Test:

You meet the physical presence test if you are physically present in a foreign country or countries 330 full days during a period of 12 consecutive months. The 330 qualifying days do not have to be consecutive. The physical presence test applies to both U.S. citizens and U.S. resident aliens.

Yep, there are other exemptions/credits available, but this is the main one I go for and hasn't changed. Only thing is the exemption itself goes up every year for inflation. There are also Tax Credits available if an employer pays a foreign government income tax on wages earned in the foreign country as well.

Its $101,300 for 2016 from what I read just now.

The part thats aggravating is the ACA mandate and the penalties I have to pay because I was outside the USA and have no need for their expensive insurance. And thats X2 I believe because I file joint with my wife. Its early right now and Im a bit hazy, and I have a tax guy take care of all this so its not very fresh in my memory.

Its bullshit because the price of the penalty is about the same as shit-standard Bronze plan or whatever, which is total garbage.

Burns me up to have to pay an insurance company for total, overpriced garbage, or pay a tax penalty. Fucking insurance companies the middle men? Nah fuck all that.

At this point I would rather just pay a reasonable tax percentage for the rest of my life and never have to worry about this shit again.

    Anyway....

^ Do you otherwise have any other health insurance?

Looks like I need to figure out whats different about my situation or if there is a mistake. Ive had to pay into it even with the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.

I know I've been reading about it, but I'm still at work and don't have access to my returns to see what happened on the last few years.

You don't need to. Obamacare specifically has an exemption for those who reside outside the a certain number of months a year (like I said I think its ten)

EDIT: Okay I looked and the exemption applies if you were out of the country for 330 days of the year. Pretty strict, but it sounds like you would qualify.

Here is a link to the criteria and how to apply for the exemption, forms, etc

^ Well I did for 2015 & 2014, but both those years have been amended (still in process) by a Specialist tax guy for O&G workers.

I dont have my stuff here to see what the story is.

    Email from Tax Guy:

Primarily, will need wages earned, the dates that you were in the US during the year. Your work address, the name and address of your employer. Last year their was a 1099R form from Vanguard. If you received any 1099 forms from anyone, we need those. If you are buying a home, then I need to know the amount of interest paid last year and any property taxes paid. I also need to know if you had health insurance coverage. We need to prove that you did have insurance coverage for the year for you and your wife, unless you were both out of the country all year. Also, any donations that you might have made.

Lets get that together and it will be a good start and may be all we need. If there is anything else that we might need, I will let you know.
So looks like he's already got it taken care of, and its probably reflected in my amended returns (for which I'm still waiting on).

    Sheesh I hate this shit.

    quick poll:

the house vote is on thursday.....do you think they make it to 216?

i tend to think they probably will just get there with a lot of arm twisting. wouldn't be surprised if it comes in at exactly 216 or maybe one over.

but as written now, this bill has no chance in the senate, so many of these reps are rightfully worried about being "btu'd" in 2018.

Will be close but agree. Pass or not, rush to bring to a vote before they all go home for a break in hope they won't face the wrath of ther constituents for doing nothing. It's all about convincing folks to keep them in office come 2018 mid terms. In spite of the repeal and replace Obama care war cry Republicans have been obsessed with for 7 years, the rush is unwise and likely to end up with something no one is happy with.
