Aeroflot have banned old,fat and ugly cabin crew from international routes.
About 400 who are over 40 or larger than size 16 are on domestic routes now.
Flew with them when USSR was going,big bad mannered bags handing out lollies,
no service skills at all,was cheap though and interesting to see the other side.
Wonder if BA will follow suite,bloody hard passing one of them in the aisle.

Most airlines have a grooming department, and the ones that are overweight soon get on the stairmaster when they lose the glamour routes.

Except in the UK and US where they have something called "Fat Shaming".

Do you really care what they look like? It's the ones that behave like power crazed prison guards, mostly on the US carriers that bother me.

Ceiling prices of low-cost air tickets to be adjusted in accordance with services

Air fare regulator, the civil aviation committee, has agreed to revamp the air fare ceiling of low-cost airlines by introducing two-tiered fare ceiling based on the kinds of service – low-cost service and full service.

Civil Aviation Authority director Chula Sukmanop said Thursday that currently air fare ceiling was pegged at 22 baht/km for distance not exceeding 300 km and 13 baht/km for distance beyond 300 km.

He said the civil aviation committee, however, thought that the ceiling should be adjusted in accordance with the services provided which should more realistically reflect the costs.

The committee will set the standards of services and work out the appropriate ceiling prices which are expected to come into force in the middle of this year, said Mr Chula, adding that the new air fare ceiling may not affect the promotional air fares offered by low-cost airlines due to strong competition among the airlines.

But he believes the last –minute deal air tickets of low-cost airlines will be much cheaper than those offered by full-service airlines.

Mr Chula, however, the air fare ceiling of the full-service operations would be increased from the current rate of 13 baht/km which has been in use since 2010 without any adjustments.

An Italian air traffic control strike today has caused the cancellation of hundreds of flights, as airlines warned of travel disruption throughout the day.

Passengers flying to and from Italy will have their travel disrupted due to the industrial action, which is expected to last for four hours this afternoon.

Airlines for Europe (A4E) said it expects more than 500 flights to be cancelled and passengers will also face delays for the rest of the day "when cancellations and delays have a knock-on effect on other European flights".

The US is banning electronic devices such as laptops and tablets from cabin baggage on flights from eight Middle Eastern and North African countries.
A US government source told the BBC that the measure would affect nine airlines operating out of 10 airports.
US media reported the order was sparked by intelligence gathered overseas.
It will reportedly include all large electronic devices such as laptops, tablets cameras, DVD players and electronic games.
But mobile phones and smartphones will still be allowed in carry-on luggage.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) declined to comment on the issue but is expected to make an announcement on Tuesday.

Last February an aircraft operated by the Dubai-based carrier Daallo was damaged by an explosion shortly after take-off from the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Investigators said a passenger who was sucked out of the plane had been carrying a laptop bomb. The pilot managed to land and the alleged bomber was the only fatality. Had the device gone off at cruising altitude the plane would almost certainly have been destroyed.
The Islamic militant group al-Shabab, which is linked to al-Qaeda, claimed that it was responsible and the possibility of further such attacks is apparently what is now concerning American spies.
But, as ever with matters of intelligence, officials are reluctant to go into detail about exactly why the ban is being proposed.
That means travellers being asked to trust the US government when it says that this inconvenience is vital for their own safety and - at present - trust is a commodity which is in very short supply.

The Jordan-based carrier said that starting on Tuesday, it will only allow phones and medical devices on its flights. All other electronics would be "strictly prohibited".
The airline said that laptops, tablets, DVD players and electronic games must be checked with baggage.
The new rule will affect Royal Jordanian flights to New York, Chicago, Detroit and Montreal.
Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly reportedly called congressional lawmakers over the weekend to explain the travel security issues that prompted the electronics ban, a congressional aide briefed on the discussion told the AP news agency.
The new ban has been under consideration for several weeks, according to US media.

An Emirates plane and a Scoot aircraft came into contact in the early hours of Thursday at Changi Airport.
The Emirates Airbus 380 - flight EK405 - was bound for Dubai when the incident occured.
An Emirates spokesperson told Khaleej Times: "Emirates flight EK405 from Singapore to Dubai on 30 March was slightly damaged during pushback. Engineering inspections determined that some repairs will be required and as a result all our affected passengers have now been rebooked on alternative flights.
Emirates apologises for any inconvenience caused, however the safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance."



Meanwhile a Scoot spokesman told The Straits Times that the flight TZ188, bound for Tianjin, China, was taxiing before take-off when the accident happened at 1.40am. All 303 passengers and 11 crew are safe and they were put on a replacement aircraft for a rescheduled flight at around 6am.

The spokesman said the left wing of the Scoot plane came into contact with the Emirates aircraft. The damaged plane is undergoing repairs.

"We are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of the incident" she said.

A spokesman for Changi Airport Group said passengers aboard were re-booked on other Emirates flights scheduled to depart later the same day, the report added.

Officer on leave after dragging United Airlines passenger off plane




An aviation security officer who dragged a passenger off of an overbooked United Airlines (UAL.N) flight to make room for employees has been placed on leave, Chicago authorities said on Monday.

It was the second instance in less than a month of public outcry regarding the airline.

The officer -- one of three involved in the Sunday night incident -- did not follow protocol, according to a statement from the Chicago Department of Aviation, and as a result "has been placed on leave effective today pending a thorough review of the situation."

"The actions of the aviation security officer are obviously not condoned by the Department," the statement said.

The incident was one of the top-trending topics on Twitter as users took to the website to express their anger over the forceful removal of the passenger from United Flight 3411 as it was about to take off from Chicago to Louisville, Kentucky, on Sunday.

Video of the incident posted to Twitter account @Tyler_Bridges shows three security officers huddling over the seated passenger, who appears to be an older Asian man, before dragging him on the floor.

Bridges said that the man told United staff that he was a doctor and had to return home to patients.

The airline said it had asked for volunteers to leave because additional flight crew needed to get to Louisville.

The outcry prompted a statement from Chief Executive Officer Oscar Munoz. "This is an upsetting event to all of us here at United. I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers."

Munoz said United was "moving with a sense of urgency" to work with the authorities and conduct its own review of the incident.

In Bridges' video, a woman asks: "Can't they rent a car for the pilots and have them drive?" Two uniformed men then reach into the doctor's seat and yank him from his chair.

Fellow passenger Jayse D. Anspach, who goes by @JayseDavid on Twitter, wrote: "No one volunteered (to leave), so @United decided to choose for us. They chose an Asian doctor and his wife."

While airport security staff were ejecting him, Anspach wrote, his face was slammed against an arm rest, causing his mouth to bleed.

"It looked like he was knocked out, because he went limp and quiet," Anspach wrote, "and they dragged him out of the plane like a rag doll."

Bridge's video shows the passenger screaming as officers yank him from his seat. He is then seen being dragged down the aisle on his back by his hands, body limp, glasses askew and shirt pulled up above his navel.

Another video shows him, still disheveled from the altercation, returning to the cabin, running to the back of the plane and repeating: "I have to go home."

Much of the uproar surrounded the appropriateness of removing a paying customer in order to accommodate airline staff.

"They bloodied a senior citizen & dragged him off the plane so THEIR OWN STAFF could take his seat," one Twitter user wrote.

Other social media users questioned whether the man would have been removed as forcefully had he not been Asian.

Late last month, two teenage girls dressed in leggings were denied boarding on a United flight from Denver to Minneapolis because of their form-fitting pants.

Because the girls were using free passes for employees or family members, they were subject to a dress code.

That's gonna cost UAL a few more passengers...Apparently, they were offered $800, free hotel, and flight Monday pm (which I would probably have taken if I hadn't got a few patients to care for).

It would have been good if everyone got up and left after the incident, leaving UAL an even more embarrassing situation to deal with.

Qantas launches first direct flights from London to Perth for £1,095 ahead of first service in March 2018

Non-stop flights from London to Perth have gone on sale from just over £1,095 return for economy class, after Qantas launched the first direct flights between the two locations.

The Australian carrier has announced that tickets for the first non-stop flights have gone on sale. The flights, which will be the first regular passenger service to directly link Australia with Europe, will be operated by Boeing 787-9, which seats up to 236 passengers.

The route will operate as London-Perth-Melbourne, and year round return economy fares for the London-Melbourne route start from £1,115 and the London-Perth route from £1,095, though Qantas says these are expected to "drop below £900 return during deal periods".

When the new direct route was announced at the end of last year, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce, said: "When Qantas created the Kangaroo Route between London and Australia in 1947, it took four days and nine stops. Now it will take just 17 hours from Perth non-stop".

“This is a game-changing route flown by a game-changing aircraft," he added. "Travellers from Europe have never had a direct link down under before, so the opportunities this opens for them to explore Australia are huge."

Qantas said earlier this month thinks its ambition of delivering non-stop commercial flights from Sydney to London, could be achieved within five years now Airbus and Boeing offer aircraft that are capable.

"These aircraft, we think, are potentially real goers on these routes," Joyce told Reuters, discussing the A350-900ULR and the Boeing 777-8.

While the airline has yet to launch a formal tender process for the prestige order, as Boeing is yet to finalise the specifications on the 777-8, Joyce said the first flights will be possible in around 2022.

The route, which Joyce called "the most competitive on the globe", would shave off three hours of flight time and allow the airline to charge a premium, setting it apart from other airlines manning the route.

All Nippon Airways as of February 16 began operating direct flights between Tokyo and Mexico City.

China Southern as of April 11 began flying directly between Guangzhou and Mexico City.

Aeromexico will launch on May 27 a direct service between Seoul and Mexico City.

Normal runway operations resume at Suvarnabhumi airport

BANGKOK, 1 May 2017 (NNT) – Flights can normally take off and land at both runways of Suvarnabhumi international airport after maintenance has been completed two days ahead of schedule.

Airports of Thailand's (AOT) Suvarnabhumi Airport General Manager Sirote Duangratana said the maintenance on the northern end of the airport's east runway planned for 3 March - 2 May 2017 has been completed on 27 April 2017, allowing all aircraft, including superjumbo Airbus A380 airliners, to land and take off from 07.00 a.m. on 1 May following inspection and safety tests.

The re-opening of the east runway came two days earlier than planned. That allowed the airport to operate at its normal capacity by 68 flights per hour.

The airport chief said the runway maintenance had concluded well as a result of thorough planning from the airport's internal units, the Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, the Bureau of Aeronautical Meteorology, the Airline Operators Committee, commercial airlines and the Immigration Bureau.

He said the runway improvement will enable the airport to accommodate the increased flights and support the country's growth in air transports.

Thai airways have a special for $710 from Brisbane to Bangkok if you can fit into the even smaller seat on the dreamliner. ( Dreamliner because they never dreamed they could put so many people into such a small space.)

China's first big passenger plane takes off for maiden flight



China's first large domestically made passenger aircraft has completed its maiden flight, mounting a major challenge to Boeing and Airbus.

After about 90 minutes in the air the plane landed safely back at Pudong airport in Shanghai.

The plane is a key symbol of Beijing's soaring ambitions to enter the global aviation market.

Made by state-owned firm Comac, it has been in planning since 2008 but the flight was repeatedly pushed back.

For Friday's maiden flight, the plane carried only its skeleton crew of five pilots and engineers and took off in front of a crowd of thousands of dignitaries, aviation workers and enthusiasts.

Ahead of the flight, state television said the plane would fly at an altitude of only 3,000m (9,800 feet), some 7,000m lower than a regular trip, and reach a speed of around 300km/h (186mph).

The C919 is designed to be a direct competitor to Boeing's 737 and the Airbus A320.
