Thread: More people in northern provinces ill with respiratory tract diseases

BANGKOK, 16 February 2017 (NNT) – Cold weather in the northern part of the country has made more people ill with respiratory tract diseases. Dry weather conditions have started to affect Para rubber plantations in the Northeast, resulting a decrease in latex production.

In Bueng Kan province, Para rubber plantations in Seka district have been affected by a shortage of rain. If drought conditions persist, farmers will have to stop tapping rubber trees for longer than two months. However, the current drop in rubber supply has brought the price of cup lump to 42.8 baht/kilo.

In Khon Kaen, the Sila Municipality has given 400 blankets to poor people and people with disabilities in various villages in Tambon Ang Sila. Public health officers will provide health check-ups for the local people following an increase in respiratory tract patients during this period.

In Uthai Thani, people who live in the highlands and areas adjacent to the Huay Kha Keng forests have started to be ill with respiratory tract diseases such as asthma and bronchitis. Public health officers in the province therefore warned people to take care of their health and keep themselves warm.

PM10 get stuck in the lungs and are very harmful. PM2.5 are much worse because they cross from the lungs into the blood stream and are carried to every organ causing millions of deaths and tens or even hundreds of millions of sick and suffering worldwide, especially in the poorer countries.

I wonder if the N95 masks really does protect one from the PM10 and PM2.5 that are coming from many kinds of fires, but also from a 'new' source...see for yourself

There goes the decrease in STDs in Thailand.
