Mazda redefines subcompact car segment with new Mazda2

Bangkok, Thailand, February 15, 2017 – Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd., is stimulating the Thai passenger car market once again with a second new model for this year. While the new Mazda3 was introduced in January, Mazda follows up with the launch of the new 2017 Mazda2 staged in grand style. The new Mazda2, which is expected to set new standards in the subcompact segment, bears the concept of “The Next Level of Excitement” and gets superstar Napat Siangsomboon as presenter. The Mazda2 is also the second Mazda model to be equipped with the innovative SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS system featuring G-VECTOING CONTROL (GVC) and added features. Meanwhile, the retail pricing has been raised just marginally, starting at just Bt1,000 for increased value.

The launch event of the improved Mazda2 today signifies a new concept, with the new model introduction being preceded with a full concert. Praew Kanitkul starts off the program with soft jazz tunes while the highlight is the introduction of the new Mazda brand ambassador Napat Siangsomboon, one of the hottest celebrities in showbiz today. Napat comes with the new Mazda2 and talks about his experience with the car, travelling around the country as Mazda presenter. Another big surprise follows, with Thailand’s number rock band Bodyslam taking on the stage for a full rock concert.

All they've done is put some chrome around the foglights, changed the interior trim to a less snazzy one and gave the car a software update, of which the old model will get , oh and ramped up the price

    'subcompact' ...

Heck, the Mazda 3 is a Family Saloon and the '2' ain't that much smaller.

As an aside, the squeeze and I are partial to the previous generation Mazda 3 and MX3 ... might look to pick one up in a years time back in the West were we do most of our driving.

That deep red colour looks great.

Mazda 3 hatchback in red metallic has a very sexy arse, would have to be the 2.0 litre though.

Many cars are sold on color these days, that cherry red is common to Mazda and Lexus and is incredibly difficult to refinish. Manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of color to raise the profile and sell more units, without considering the aftersales market... but still, I love that color

Our rust coloured Yaris is proving to be brilliant.

    Acceleration is quite remarkable.
    Handling, superb.

And an extra 10,000 baht when I went the showroom last month. I preferred the pearlescent white tbh which was 7,000 extra.

The Mazda 2 was 60,000 baht cheaper then than it is now with the 30k discount they were offering.

Seems a much better buy now.

My previous car of more then a decade was white ... ex-renter, bought at auction.

I'm tired of white cars but ...

... but then I saw that pearlescent white colour. It's like it's a metallic white ... thumbs up ... looks sweet.

BTW, some spray Painters hate 'white' cars as there are maybe 50 shades of 'white' ... but there is only one black.

At least a quarter of the cars on the road in the UAE are pearl white... they love em, especially Merc and the Nissan Patrol which is the size of a hill on wheels, problematic, but give 'em their due... these Indian painters may not be able to count to potato but they sure now how to adjust color.

Wouldn't buy a white car myself and they aren't common in the UK, even the police changed from white to silver cars because they couldn't sell the decommissioned vehicles... I do like a white hire car though, easy to paint over the little scrapes with a spray can well enough for the dolly receptionist not to notice.

Design-wise why do Mazdas seem to have an exaggerated front overhang. They look out of proportion compared to their contemporaries. I suppose the exhaust at the front of the engine necessitates the extra.

    An observation...

To look aggressive, a muscle car thing IMO and to be commended when you look at everyday Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans from the same country

Personally, I would define exaggerated front overhang as ...
Damm fine bumpers though ... bet she'd never break her nose falling face first!

    Or this ...

Depends if you drive on the left or the right ... -
