Kaeng Krachan (or not) black and white day

Seeing as I had a day with nothing to do yesterday, I decided to take a ride down to Kaeng Krachan. It took under 2 hours to get there

    from Bangkok.

However - no bikes allowed into the main part, so I headed back via the beach at Petchaburi and the salt farms in Samut Songkhram and

    Samut Sakhon.

If you want to go, you get to the main park entrance, pay your entry fee and then join whoever else is there and get driven in a

    converted pickup around the park.

I would have done that, but they wouldn't accept my work permit and wanted to charge me full whack.

Obviously I had the money - but it's the principle.

They used to accept work permits everywhere as proof of residence so you paid the local price, but it seems nowadays no one does.

I guess I'll get a Thai driver's license soon - to deal with that.

Still, a mellow day out, I stopped here and there for a drink and some grub, so not all was lost!

    Here's a few snaps anyway.

I do like b+w photographs. There's something almost mystical about 'em.
    Thanks Albert.

    Great shots, thank you.

My 1st wife and I made our way to the gate of KK, years ago. (maybe...97')

We went inside by foot and hitched our way into the park. Ended up getting picked up and then camping a few nights with a Thai party.

It was outstanding although I don't remember any major wildlife sightings beyond lots of gibbons and a few weeks later I came down with "something reminiscent of rocky mountain spot fever," due to a nasty tick bite.

    Cheers CJ, yup, timeless.

Sadly not Nev (other than the snake crossing the road which caused a pickup to swerve into my path) . That was a big part of the reason I headed down there. I'm sure there's quite a bit if you get deep into the park though. They have camp sites in the park, so I reckon if you could spare a couple of days, stay down there, hire a tour guide and head off on foot hiking, you'd probably get to see quite a bit. The intergoogles indicates that's the case anyway.
