How about something along these lines, Jacko...

If you're gonna go for it - go full-hog!
Nothing like a lovely traditional teak Thai house.

Must be, as it's making a comeback big time!

Sure beats the fuck outta those ugly Western designed homogenous cement block houses. Some folks have no taste or imagination whatsoever...

Be aware that moving wood is strictly controlled. If you're going from one mooban to another you'll need to get permission.

Our place is 75% wood and we bought a derelict wooden house in a neighbouring village to repair and expand on what we had. Seemed straight forward until our old friend, Bankeo, mentioned the moving.
Took a week to sort out. Cost us nothing but time, but it's worth checking it out.
I thought that permit was only required if you were transporting TEAK wood?

Have you Chico factored in the Thai female mind, they will want the biggest house ever to be built in the area, it's a must.
Because a new house is more than a home, it's a statement," look at me, I am rich, the richest for all to see for miles around, the biggest house . Before, I was the poorest girl in Nakon Nowhere and you all look down on me. Now I have big Taj Mahal and look down on neighbours "

    ^^ Mate, not sure.

I read that back when I was on another Forum.

It stemmed from growing Teak as a potential alternative Farming idea for income.

Apparently you have to sell the tree only to a registered logger and also have to have a permit for transportation.

That's where the discussion ended, so I don't know where to direct you further.

    Wood MoveLetter

We had to get a letter ftom the Poo Yai Ban when buying an old house to transport only about a mile, as JJ noted there are fines and with village gossip the chance of moving sizeable amounts without notice is nil.

We all no how"flexible ' enforcement is and how areas vary.It cost nothing but I bought a few beers to get it done over one weekend.

Designs bamboo filled with concrete is interesting

In ground may provide a cool room

Superblock or QCon hebel block would be my pick again with natural materilas for outside areas.

If you can access free pebbles from local stream or Qaurrying a wattle and daub has good thermal aspects

The Queenslander with covered decks was my choice I'll do a thread once I can the pix and upload, last time all my pix got deleted so not much incentive

We went through the era around 12 yrs ago. she has come a long way since, with many arguments along the way, my favourite answer is if you want this or that we'll go 50/50, stops the conversation in its tracks, after a pause then it goes onto I'll find another husband, which then goes to please do.

The land is close to finish the lumberjack came and cut the Big tree today, 1,000 baht with the BIB cut of 20%,never heard that one before,he was speaking on the phone, though by the reaction of the crowd that came to watch, seems its true.

The tractor geezer comes tomorrow to clear all the land of stumps 11,000 baht.

    Not always the case.
Unless one has never really experienced life here [lack of exposure] and knowledge largely based upon mythical stereotypes and hearsay.
