The place has an interesting history with the French exploration and commerce up the Mekong, they couldnt get their boats past the falls so built a railway up two of the islands. The rail bed, a bridge between the islands and an old locomotive are still there.
Combine a trip there with a motorbike ride round the Bolaven Plateau and a trip across the river to Wat Phou and you have a great holiday. Bolaven Plateau Laos
