^ MtD, this is the Hotel I was going to recommend, I went there and I can assure you it is quite nice, the best deal in that part of town. They quoted me $30 locally but I guess from overseas it's more, unless you took the Jacuzzi room on the rooftop.

They have free computer in the room with ADSL. All the other places are shit compared to that one.

Be careful with all the hippies, they are quite a few and they are everywhere.

I did book the best room, rather than go for the cheap one. Only $15 difference, so that's only a few Baht.

^ the best room is 75 USD and has Jacuzzi

The room you booked is available for 30 USD locally, but your chance to get a room would be slim if you didn't make reservation from overseas.

it is a really nice place, I like it much better then HCM/Saigon

first time I ate dog was there!

and the first and only time I have ever been propositioned on a bicycle

stopped at lights, a Viet guy comes up, also on a bike "you want Vietnam Madame?"

I was also propositioned on a motorbike in Saigon, whem I was with a friend. Two girls came up next to us and gestured that one of us should swop with one of them. On closer inspection, however, they were katoeys

Ah yes Saigon - The city where *every* motorbike is a taxi.

check out the water puppet theatre down by the lake.

they have a few shows every night and its not a bad bit of entertainment.

as far as food goes dont eat where the falangs are eating. just grab a map and start walking around the place checking things out.

you'll soon come across local little restaurants full of vietnamese. these have great food and the locals are usually very friendly, even to americans.
good cold local lager as well and very cheap.

the local girls are georgous and the eye candy sensational.

number one rule in vietnam is to establish the price before you do or eat anything. we had trouble with some locals trying to scam us and ive done a lot of travelling and know the go.

get yourself to the war museum as this is worth a look.

be bloody careful you done get run over by a friggin moter cycle as you wont believe this lot until you see them in action.

    mind boggling.

besides that i like hanoi much more than saigon as its got the old quarter, the lake and lots of action.

    enjoy your trip mate.

    the reverend.

PS less farang in hanoi as well.
