Have we seen the last European Pope?

Great tactical rearguard move by the Catholic Church.

The western world is getting too sophisticated for religion.

Best to retreat to safe ground in Latin America and also strengthen support in this bastion of Catholicism by giving them a local pope.

An Africa Pope was never a possibility this time round as the racist latino's would never wear that and the church cannot afford to piss them off unless it wants to accelerate its demise into religious relicry.

The Europeans had a pretty good run (600 years)- I would bet there will be Asian and African popes before another Euro is chosen.

The Vatican isn't moving. This Pope is a European as always. I doubt the European clergy would want others to control the wealth associated with the Vatican.

The Philippines used to have a Cardinal (Jaime) Sin. Having a Flip as Pope would be a a laugh, especially on Good Friday when a lot of the Filipino peeps like to recreate the magic of crucifixion over the Easter weekend.

A bit like Monty Python, sans irony.

Cardinal Sin, what a pillock. He resolutely opposed everything the only decent President in modern Filipine history tried to do. Why?- because he was a Protestant.

I wouldn't mind having an old fashioned Irish whiskey priest as pontiff, with a nice lithe young brown boy as his, erm, personal assistant. Kinda what the Catholic church is all about.

So the Cardinals chose a new manager. I don't follow US football so I don't care.

You know, papaya pok pok on Fridays with lots of nam pla.
Or perhaps a Muslim one. Now there's a multicultural approach.

The Catholic church is under assault of the nutcase protestant churches spreading from the US. I guessed an American would become pope, from North America though.

I didn't think that would happen. Maybe because there are still more stories to come out of the closet..........

Why do they elect a pope who's almost dead anyway? At 76 years old they will just have to find a new one in a few years. Or do they do it to give the kids a fighting chance at buggery time?

    Good choice

New Pope Francis I is an ardent opponent of same-sex marriage, in coincidence with traditional Catholic belief. In 2010, he wrote, “Let’s not be naïve, we’re not talking about a simple political battle; it is a destructive pretension against the plan of God. We are not talking about a mere bill, but rather a machination of the Father of Lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God.” The media remains aghast at the fact that Francis I is a Catholic. They should get used to it.

    That's right. Suck it, queers...

So the Pope, the figurehead of the Catholic church that is plagued by institutionalised paedophilia scandals, is against same-sex marriage... Who cares.

Nice cut 'n paste from Brietbart by the way - imagine a world with out right-wing blogs, you'd have nothing to say about anything!

Perhaps the whole Pope thing should be softened a tad. Maybe "Don Mario" would be a more appropriate name.
