I have just visited the Wat Pa Pao in Chiang mai, the Burmese temple

there were hundreds of Burmese thronging in and around the temple, queues of red buses outside

they had a really nice show, dancing/singing girls and traditional dances

a few of the spectators; not a farang in sight! obviously not in Lonely Planet

all of them were dressed in new clothes making me feel a bit scruffy; the guy in green came up and had a chat

Thia girl was talented, great voice, the crowd shouted and clapped after each stanza

My daughter went up and gave her a flower and garland

The band were real! I had thought it was a recording until I peeped behind a curtain to the side

lots of good food was also available, very different from Thai

Same here.

must admit there were a few stunners there, but most on the young side

I think a tough life takes its toll on most women there

Especially the ones who work in the rice fields. As much as they cover their faces and arms, the sun is brutal on them. Still get a smile from behind all the Balaclava stuff though.

update...

just visited Chedi Luang and walked around the Chedi with the rest of the crowd - reminded me of Mecca, on a small scale

very busy

also popped into Wat Pan Tao to see the lights
