There are three levels offered by SCB Bank (I have whatever their highest level is- it was about 30K, but they offer some less expensive options).

I've had it for about five years now and I've always been satisfied with the coverage and the way any hospital hospital (Bumrungrad, etc) will accept it.

I've never had any major incidents like accidents or surgery during that time, but I've never had an issue when I needed to use it for minor illnesses or sports injuries.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

    I need it n I'm listening.

failsafe. is there such as a family package or is it just X how many persons there is? .

l looked into bupa when you mentioned this sometime last yr but I couldn't find out about grandfathering my policy once I'm older .

does SCB still cover for a reasonable rate once I get older?
will not put up wiv the "Nanny state" so don't push it on me.

    ^^

Sorry, but I don't know if there's a family rate- my wife gets covered through her father's company (using AIA).

The rates go up the older you are (I believe that's true of every insurance company), but the increases aren't that bad- I would recommend stopping into any branch and picking up a brochure just so you can compare it to other companies- one thing I liked about SCB was that they wouldn't deny coverage if you had a motorbike accident (unlike several others), which was a big deal for me.

I'm on the AIA 20Pay Life plan.

    2 piss poor links here:

Products : 20 Pay Life Non Par AIA Helps.com

    ??????????? - ???????? 20 ?? (AIA 20 Pay life) | ?????? ?????????

There's loads of details but the main ones are:

Hospital room 2,200/day (max 125 days)
    Daily consultation 800
    Surgeon fee 60,000
    Misc hospital fees 20,000

They pay 1,000 per day to you if you're hospitalised

550,000 in event of a car or bike accident

    Tax deductible up to 100,000

100,000 payable upon maturity (20 years)

    About 500,000 upon death.

My legal rep said this plan is probably good enough to cover half the costs involved if diagnosed with a serious cancer.

Also, AIA are everywhere and you shouldn't get a problem with any hospital in Thailand unlike you may do with Bupa. My rep is also an agent for Bupa and said you often have to pay the bill before trying to claim it back from Bupa.

Before anyone says that she must get more commission from AIA, she actually gave most of her commission back to me because she's a friend.

Yep, agreed. AIA also knows the Thai market a lot better than BUPA, and local people usually buy insurance from people they know, so that if the sh!t hits the fan their rep is right there to sort it out.
A good friend of mine recently had a severe stroke that hospitalized him to the tune of over 1 mill and counting, and his BUPA (farang mate's wife) rep was totally useless. The guy's relatives had to come over from the UK to try and sort out the insurance details, which are still up in the air.

Here's some info from me that might be usefull at a later date.
I've been 'scraped up' off the floor on several occassions over here(motorbyke) and been hospitalised twice. As long as your motorbyke/car is fully registered and relevant taxes paid, you are covered for injury up to (can't remember the exact amount) but I seem to remember it was over 100000 baht.
Luckily the BIB's weren't involved and I managed to get to the hospital with the aid of my lovely wife.
After I'd left the hospital and paid the bill, she went to the police station and filled in the relevant forms and some shite about a dog knocking me off said machine. This is the best bit, the police statement was free!
She then produced the document to the main office for the Thai insurance and recovered monies.
    Hope this helps.
    Charley.

PS. I'd still go for the health insurance though.
