Thai Holiday Over Christmas and New Years

Hi all. I'm finally starting my thread on our great trip to Thailand. We spent one day under four weeks there from mid December to January 9th. I have loads of pics, but I'll post them in groups of 4 or 5 to make them easier to view and (hopefully) enjoy.

OK, we arrived in BKK on the morning of Dec 14th. The weather was nice and clear for our landing.

I went to our local market to pick up brekkie.

This was a Friday and that night we met some friends for dinner at The Waterside Restaurant.

    Rudolph wasn't there yet

We went for dinner at a local, Muslim seafood place which was excellent!

    Southern Thai style oysters

    A yummy appetiser

    More yum!

Every place in Phuket now has Russian signs.

For Christmas lunch we went to Angus O'Toole's in Karon. It had a really nice atmosphere and the food was great, but a bit too much. It was a really good deal for 690 baht. You got a welcome drink of mulled wine, the turkey plate and a choice of two desserts.

    Karon Temple

One of many more Russian signs

    And a perverted British sign

Looks like you had a great start to your Thai holiday Natalie8. Food looks good. Were you just looking out the gym window or were you actually exercising?

Looking forward to some more of your photos. Holiday photos are almost always enjoyable to view...

    Christmas Lunch in Karon

    And now for the food!

We both had the same dessert, a rummy boozy cakey thing with custard which I can't recall the name of.

More Russian signs. This was a tour company that had everything in Russian.

If you want a fish pedicure you can get one here

The girl working there was too busy yapping on her phone to care about me taking pictures.

LOL, I was debating putting that in my comment. I was actually using the equipment. The gym is fully stocked with weights, treadmills, crosstrainers and stationary bikes. That view is from the treadmill I was on. It was gorgeous.

Hubby's friend runs an elephant trekking business and they have three baby elephants. They are well taken care of, I asked many questions and checked out the elephant myself. This one is a four year old female.

You buy cups of fruit and veggies and you can feed them.

The mahout looked more like an artistic type, 555.

They also had crocodiles here. They were all sleeping at the time, one with his mouth wide open.

    Promthep Cape and Naiharn Beach

After the elephant place we went to Promthep Cape and Naiharn Beach. This is from the top:

There were two couples doing wedding photos there.

    Two people were snorkeling here.

Nice thread Nat and all the best to you and your hubby for 2013.

I am a little disappointed you have not put up some pictures of the office bar where we had a few drinks.

Or maybe you have no recollection about the evening?

Some really nice food there at the start so your thread. Those oysters looked good and Mom's cooking has to be great after being away for a while. Made me hungry!

Thanks, LT. I had my camera with me but I didn't see anyone else taking any pics, so I figured people didn't want their pics taken.

The food was amazing! It had been more than a year and a half since I was in Thailand last and I just gorged on everything. I did manage to lose 2 kilos somehow. It must be all that fresh healthy stuff and the nice weather.

Khao Lak and Baan Nam Khem

On Friday the 28th we drove up to Khao Lak area where my sister in law and her family are. This is at the top of Phuket just before the bridge. It's a nice big restaurant / pee stop. They so kindly have two types of toilets with signs to indicate which ones they are.

    I much prefer this one

A tsunami memorial on the bridge

The first beach on the mainland. Nobody was on it.

Thanks, BLD. Yes, the food everywhere was really good. We did really well. TBH after about four days, I was craving western food so I had that a few times. I have more pics of food if you guys want to see them.
