Original Report
PHUKET: Doctors at a Phuket hospital are fighting to save the life of a Hong Kong man after he was pulled from a swimming pool at a five-star resort in a coma yesterday.
Manhoe Lai, 31, was in the pool at the JW Marriott Resort and Spa about noon yesterday when his wife and other swimmers raised the alarm.
Mr Lai's wife is reported to have run to the front desk to report that her husband was in difficulties.
Other guests and staff assisted him from the swimming pool and an ambulance was called.
Mr Lai, 31, was taken to Thalang Hospital in central Phuket. His condition was assessed as critical and doctors had him transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket in Phuket City.
He is now on life support in the intensive care unit.
Officers from Tachatchai Police Station, at the north of Phuket, were called to the resort, which is in Mai Khao, on Phuket's holiday west coast.
It is believed other swimmers in the pool at the time at first thought Mr Lai was floating face-down deliberately.
The couple had arrived at the resort on Sunday.
