Former Belgian Police Officer assaults Thai Police Corporal at Pattaya Police Station

Posted on January 5, 2013 at 12:32 pm

Just before 1.45am on Saturday, Police were called to the Lucky Star Beer Bar on Pattaya Beach in front of Soi 8 to deal with a Belgian patron who was accused of stealing money from a tip-box situated at the front of a sound stage.

Mr. Jos De Smet aged 52, a former Police Officer from Belgium, was accused of stealing 800 Baht from the Tip Box and is further accused of using 400 Baht of the money to pay for his drinks before he left the bar. As he left he was stopped by the Bar Manager Khun Pisan aged 32 and the female singer Khun Gidapar aged 40 and was asked to accompany them the short distance to Pattaya Police Station at the front of Soi 9 on Pattaya Beach. He refused and when Police arrived, he decided to go.

When he arrived at the Police Station, he was taken to the 2nd Floor investigation room where he was subjected to a search. A Police Corporal wanted to search Mr. De Smet’s trouser pockets but was prevented from doing so by Mr. De Smet who was in a heavily intoxicated state.

At this point he became violent and is alleged to have attempted to throw the Corporal out of the 2nd floor window. Luckily the window was partially closed. Mr. De Smet then attempted to leave the station but was stopped by the Bar Manager who was also nearly thrown out of the window.

At this point other officers arrived and were eventually able to handcuff the Belgian who was taken straight to the cells after the contents of his trouser pocket, a mobile phone and 3,450 Baht in cash were seized as evidence.

Mr. De Smet was charged with assaulting Police, theft and resisting arrest and awaits a Court appearance on Monday.

They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

He probably won`t remember anything about it until he sees the bars on the window in the morning.

So he'll be charged with two counts of attempted defenestration- that will probably end badly.

give the ability of the police to accidentally shoot and kill each other in police stations, may be this was simply an imaginative suicide attempt, beats joining the pattaya flying club.

    What a storey!

Trying to launch a copper out of a second storey window, pissed up or not this cnut as got some front.

The best bit for me though is the fact he used to be a plod and was probably a right cnut!
Bet he never imagined in his wildest dreams he would get a taste from the other side of the fence, and in fucking Thailand I love it.

No I should not find humour in this man,s unfortunate situation.
    But I do!

The Thai police have impeccable manners when camera's are pointed in their direction.

Might make a base scheme for a rousing Thai-based comedy on the telly.

Interesting to see that the monkeys view recording the event as more important than helping someone who's quite possibly about to be fuked out of an upstairs window.

You'd think that closing the massive open window might be up there among the priorities.

No doubt that the tattooed hero is now extracting revenge that the offender is handcuffed in a cell.

So, Thai kops haven't been issued Tasers yet? That is probably all for the good.

What a country this is! Populated with people who haven't come out of the other side of puberty and visited by people in their second childhood!

Using a Taser on older, heavily intoxicated drunks is not a good idea. RCMP tried that on a Polish Passenger @ Vancouver Airport. Tased him several times. Bloke ended up dying. Cost the Justice system several Million Dollars. The deceased was a lifetime drunk ... emigrating to Canada. Don't know how he ever got a Visa?

Err, Lots of camera men there.

Well he's trying to beat his fellow countryman who tried to kill himself with an ironing board last week.

He thought "I can win the zaniest way to commit suicide" by throwing a cop out a second story window.

Don't miss next week when a man from Bruges try's to attack a ladyboy on beach road at 4 in the morning armed only with a six pound chocolate Truffle and an over priced bottle of lager...

    Tish.. Those crazy Belgians.
