'America's most wanted deadbeat dad' arrested after fleeing to Thailand

America's most wanted deadbeat dad' arrested after fleeing to Thailand to avoid $1.2m in child support payments

    By Daily Mail Reporter

The man who earned the dubious honor of being the federal government's 'most wanted deadbeat dad' has finally been caught.

Robert Sand was arrested on Monday for failing to pay more than $1.2million in child support for his three children.

His troubles date back to 1996 when the first legal complaints were filed against him for not paying child support to either of his two ex wives, and he fled to Florida and later Thailand to avoid the payments.

Caught: Robert Sand was arrested for failing to pay more than $1.2million in child support for his three children.

'I think he should be locked up for a long time,' his second ex-wife told The Daily News.

'He was a terrible role model, so I think it benefited us not having him around,' she said of she and her daughter.

Even though his bad influences may have been out of her daughter's sight, the wife still says that he owes her an estimated $400,000 in child support payments.

Before leaving the country, he earned between $500,000 and $600,000 per from automobile auctions. When he lived in Thailand, he had downgraded to selling motorcycles.

Arrest warrants were issued for Sand, 50, repeatedly ever since he stopped paying in 1996. In 2000, 2002 and 2010 he was charged with failure to comply with court orders, and in 2009 he faced a federal indictment on the same issue.

According to the Office of the Inspector General, which is a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, Sand's legal problems did not end when he fled the country.

Arrested: Sand was arrested when he landed in Los Angeles International Airport from the Philippines

'I told him to stick it out, that you can't get blood from a stone, but he said he didn't have that kind of money to pay,' Sand's mother Rita told The Daily News about his decision to run.

While living in Thailand, he was arrested for possessing a false British passport.

The final straw came when he tried to enter the Philippines with false identification, and the country extradited him to the U.S.

Sand was arrested when he landed in Los Angeles and will face trial in Long Island in the coming weeks.

Long Island bad dad Robert Sand will have to start paying back the more than $1 million in child support he owes two ex-wives.

Robert Sand, 51, was nabbed in the Philippines last year after traveling from his hideout in Thailand without the proper identification papers.

The worst deadbeat dad in the nation will have to serve 31 months in prison before he's able to start paying back more than $1 million in child support he owes his two ex-wives.

Robert Sand, 51, was nabbed in the Philippines last year after traveling from his hideout in Thailand without the proper identification papers.

Long Island Federal Judge Joseph Bianco said Sand's decade on the lam was the "most egregious" case of evading court-ordered obligations that he could find in his research.

Take him a while to pay it back after serving a year of two in prison. But in reality I hate assholes that run out on their kids. The amount per month does not matter. It was probably increased as the guy is such an asshole. His kids are probably of university age now.

The Thai males have it good, they father a kid or 2 then run away and pay nothing, but then that's why we have so many bar girls to choose from.

Sadly he will be stuck in the USA even after his release, child support arrears are grounds for the revocation of your passport in the USA.

You're right that abandoning your children is an awful thing to do, but so often the support payments are ridiculous, destroy a mans style of living and are far more than it really costs the bitch to raise the kids.

Then so many malicious women poison the kids against their father, deny or obstruct his visitation without any consequences from the courts, and sometimes even bribe the children to refuse to visit, even a decent man may say the hell with it and run off to Asia.

If you want to see something ugly, spend a day sitting in a Family Law Court. It should be a prerequisite for a marriage license.

That says that non-whites dont have that much wealth to share with their ex-wifes and kids.

^ So it's okay for them to have children and then do a runner, and because they are of small means, thats okay. Many of them do not stop there, they father kids with the next girl, just like Obamas father. This OP man did a runner to Thailand,Obamas father did a runner to Kenya.
The journalists don't have the balls to label a black absent father a dead beat dad.

hahaha. Did I say that? Not at all. We all should take responsibility of our acts. Whatever our color. And within the range of our possibilities.

I fail to see what Obama's father has to do with this.
It seems to bother you a lot wasabi - is there any personal relationship between you and Obama's mother?

When you say "we" do you really mean "I" ?
