One of the uncles. Dad's got his gut out in the background.
The land is about 100tw. You can probably see that the land has been significantly raised and towards the end of the project we will waste money building a small retaining wall.
^ they are in common use, very accurate and simple
I suppose you could use plants to retain the soilOriginally Posted by Marmite the Dog
Yep good luck Marmite.....My wife built our first place here with just a little input from me...together we would get concensus and she would go ahead and organise and pay...cheaper that way I believe....I must confess she was strong and made the building team redo things we didnt like or agree to and the end product is pretty good...far from perfect as some of the posts on here seem but nevertheless pretty good. We used concrete and rebar. On the land at the back I am now looking around for ideas to construct a work shed for me and a small wood thai style house....I will watch your build with interest Marmite

I have found the guys with the right tools for the job are the ones who know how to use them, they have built them up over several well done jobs
like my electrician, he started with just a few necessary tools; over the years he has bought good quality drills etc that make the job more efficient
if your experience is different, never mind
I have reported your post
I must admit, the Midget's uncles know their stuff. One of them has worked overseas for a few years and they all understand what they're doing.Originally Posted by OhOh
The reason why I'm only using them for the grunt work is that there are a few things I want doing differently (better hopefully) than the norm, so I will be using a different guy who is used to doing what I want for the main build.
Is this still in udon city or in the country side?
Can I ask looking toward that old house from that view is the road to the front of the old house ? so presumably when your new one is built that comes down , with your new one set back from the road ?Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
It will indeed be a considerable waste of money if they don't know what they are doing. Do make sure the retaining wall has enough drainage holes, because the soil will basically be saturated for about half the year, which puts a big load on retaining walls. After his retaining wall collapsed twice in consecutive rainy seasons, a local farang ended up having the whole thing bulldozed and transformed into a dyke. Not really an option for you though, fronting the soi.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
