The land is about 100tw. You can probably see that the land has been significantly raised and towards the end of the project we will waste money building a small retaining wall.

I haven't seen people using a water level for many a year. having said that we used a similar technique surveying storage tanks at a refinery many years ago.

Couldn't disagree more. Some just need a little help. Poor boy contractor's abound in LOS in case you missed it? I have often found that those contractors with all the right tools don't know how or where to use them as well. Its about education not show and tell.

We lose a fair bit of our small garden if we leave it as a fall to the road, so a wall we will have to just above the plot's ground level. Above that will be a Colditz style post and razor wire arrangement. It will be covered with bougainvillaea after a couple of years.

I must admit, the Midget's uncles know their stuff. One of them has worked overseas for a few years and they all understand what they're doing.

The reason why I'm only using them for the grunt work is that there are a few things I want doing differently (better hopefully) than the norm, so I will be using a different guy who is used to doing what I want for the main build.

Is this still in udon city or in the country side?

Can I ask looking toward that old house from that view is the road to the front of the old house ? so presumably when your new one is built that comes down , with your new one set back from the road ?

It will indeed be a considerable waste of money if they don't know what they are doing. Do make sure the retaining wall has enough drainage holes, because the soil will basically be saturated for about half the year, which puts a big load on retaining walls. After his retaining wall collapsed twice in consecutive rainy seasons, a local farang ended up having the whole thing bulldozed and transformed into a dyke. Not really an option for you though, fronting the soi.
