Thai Woman To Hang For Trafficking In Cocaine

SHAH ALAM, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- A Thai woman was sentenced to the gallows by the High Court here Friday after she was guilty of trafficking in 765.9 grammes of cocaine by swallowing the prohibited substance in pellet form, two years ago.

Judge Noor Azian Shaari in handing down the sentence on Raveeploy Sangkam, 28, from Bangkok, said she had failed to raise reasonable doubts in the prosecution's case.

The single mother of three was charged with committing the capital offence at the toilet of Ward 6B, Serdang Hospital between 6.35pm on Nov 5 2010 and 11.05pm on Nov 8 2010.

The accused was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang after arrival on a flight form Buenos Aires while on transit to Bangkok.

In her defence, the accused had told the court that she had been promised USD5,000 (RM15,000) by her Argentinian boyfriend to bring the drugs to Bangkok with payment to be made once she was in the Thai capital.

She further told the court that she had ingested the pellets seven hours before her flight (from Buenos Aires).

Noor Azian in handing down the punishment said there was only one sentence for drug trafficking in the country, which was the death sentence.

Deputy public prosecutor Suzana Abdul Latiff prosecuted while the accused was represented by counsel Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali.

Life is just not fair is it! No one is going to jump up and down, her state murder will have no effect on the drug scene. I wonder if there is a god, does he actually despair at the retards he created in this world?

I have no idea of her circumstances of course.
It just saddens me how easy it is for major drug dealers to recruit these people with what is peanuts for the big dealer and perhaps life changing amounts for the wretched mules. This is one is pay the ultimate price.
The dealer has long forgotten her name

Ofcourse non of us do mate , but what we do know is millions of others in similar situations manage to go without there selves whilst managing bit by bit to provide for they're kids without muling drugs .

Couldn't the flight, at least, have been booked some other way than through Malaysia (or Singapore)? Everybody knows that their penalties are extreme. Of course, Thailand might also have given her that sentence as well. I don't believe she fully understood the consequences of her actions.

the rep of these countries is exactly why the flights are routed through them .

the thinking being that flights arriving at their destination which are seen to have originated in SIN / MAL will receive a less thorough inspection

I dont really have sympathy. The tough sentence is there for a reason. Make the calculation.... Its not fucking worth it.

More countries should make drug smuggling a capital offence. No leniency.No matter the nationality there should be NO prisoner exchange.Hang the bastards where they are caught.

there cant be many thais who are unaware of the fact that its neighbour, malaysia, executes drug traffickers mercilessly.

a 27 year old thai bargirl and mother of three, supposedly streetwise enough to work that job, chooses to run drugs through malaysia.

her stupidity should not be a reason for sympathy towards her plight. whatever one thinks about execution, drug laws or malaysias heavy handed judicial system, the fact is at this time they exist, and for someone to be caught up in them shows their supreme stupidity, or ignorance or both.

putting all emotion to one side for a minute, just as nature does, ridding the world of one so stupid, makes the world just a little bit more intelligent on average, makes the human race that much more able to survive and that has been the intention of nature from the earliest days.
it is all about survival of the species. its natural for the weak and stupid to fall by the wayside in lifes journey, its darwins theory, and it cant be beaten. emotion has no place in the greater scheme of things.
