It’s no surprise that banks have it easy right now. How is it though that they are posting record profits while thousands of Americans rally against them? It turns out that banks are spending more money on lobbying than ever.

Much to the chagrin of the Occupy Wall Street protesters, it looks doubtful that any regulations will come to the banking industry in the near future that will change how the institutions operate. Recent reports suggest that while quarterly profits for banks are at the highest they’ve been in four years, they are spending more money than ever in Washington lobbying against legislation that could cost them money.

A report in the Charlotte Observer reveals that lobbying has gone up 12 percent in the first three quarters of 2011 so far, with the industry throwing down $47 million already this year on lobbying. For Wells Fargo, one of the most successful banks in the country, they’re spending 80 percent more on lobbying this year than they did in 2010. The paper adds that at the current rate in lobbying increases, the amount spent before this year’s end should set a record for the sixth straight year.

"If these firms and these organizations keep spending money at the rate they've been spending it, they will shoot through the ceiling again this year," Michael Beckel of the Center for Responsive Politics adds to the Observer.

And while the banks bring in more money than ever, the only one suffering are the customers, who are continuously suffered to increasing fees during a recession while banksters get big bonuses. With the number of lobbyists growing astronomically, the connection between Washington and Wall Street — the very root of the Occupy protests sweeping the country — is being made more and more clear.

“What we are facing here in the United States is a critical situation, a dangerous situation, where corporations are truly running the country – they are buying off, very blatantly, our politicians,” Occupy DC protester Ann Wright told RT. “That’s why we are out in the streets all over America to say no to this corruption and graft.”

“Who is lobbying for Wall Street? Wall Street has lobbyists in Washington DC, allowing them to take the money from the poor and give it to the rich,” added investigative journalist George Mapp. Radio host Stephen Lendman shares that exact sentiments as well, having told RT, “Whoever controls the power of money has supreme power. The bankers in Wall Street have the power of money and literally run the government. Goldman Sachs runs the government, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America – they run the government. This has to stop. The people in the streets across America have to understand this and demand that the power of money returns to the Congress.”

To the Observer, Michael Beckel adds that those demands are likely not to be met.
"There's a lot that these banks are interested in, and they want to make sure that they get as favorable treatment as possible,” says Beckel.
With more money going into Washington from Wall Street than ever, things seem to be only getting better for the banks.

Good luck with that Misskit. I've asked him several times in one form or another and he always ignores or dances around the question. I think he's just afraid to come out and admit he's a 100% plutocrat supporter - then he'd never hear the end of it.

I think this post is very important it shows a Retired Philadelphia police captain being arrested in full uniform at the OWS protest in NYC;

Sitting against a wall in full dress uniform with his hands cuffed behind him, this is former Philadelphia police captain Ray Lewis being arrested during the Occupy Wall St protests.

The ex-cop was taking part in the demonstrations in New York when he was detained by fellow officers who put toughened plastic bands around his wrists and shoved him to the floor.

Startling footage posted on YouTube shows his uniform blending in with a dozen other officers - before they grab him and haul him away.



Earlier he had been seen walking around holding up a sign in the face of riot cops saying: ‘NYPD don’t be Wall St mercenaries’.



He added that he would be back out on the streets as soon as he was released.

Until 2004 he was a captain in Philadelphia’s police department, one of the few in the US which can rival New York for size or complexity.

He said that New York not handling things in the right way.

‘They complained about the park being dirty,’ he said.

‘Here they are worrying about dirty parks when people are starving to death, where people are freezing, where people are sleeping in subways and they’re concerned about a dirty park.

‘That’s obnoxious, it’s arrogant, it’s ignorant, it’s disgusting.’

Lewis was among the 300 arrested during the ‘Day of Action’ on November 17 to protest against how New York mayor Michael Bloomberg was handling the protests.

He had spent most of the day near Zuccotti Park in Manhattan and was giving interviews whilst holding up a sign which read: ‘NYPD watch: Inside job'.

Mr Lewis lambasted his fellow officers as being ‘workers for the 1 per cent and they don’t even realise it’, a reference to what the protesters claim are the few who run the U.S.

He also attacked the harsh tactics of the NYPD as unacceptable and said that they had to end.

Speaking after the Day of Action, he said: ‘You should, by law, only use force to protect someone’s life or to protect them from being bodily injured.

'If you’re not protecting somebody’s life or protecting them from bodily injury, there’s no need to use force.

‘And the number one thing that they always have in their favor that they seldom use is negotiation - continue to talk, and talk and talk to people.

‘You have nothing to lose by that. This bullrush - what happened last night is totally uncalled for when they did not use negotiation long enough.’

Haven't seen that particular poster but there are plenty of Occupy posters in people's yards, on utility poles, and in shop windows asking people to avoid the big retailers this year by buying from local shops.

As an American you have to ask yourself, do you feel more ashamed for the negative consequences of this policeman's action, or for the wholly inaccurate and inarticulate moronic mud slinging that has been added to the picture...?

It's shameful that this type of petty hatred and defamation, peddled by a minority of questionable characters is celebrated by such a large portion of the population.

This idiocy and bigotry is the worst aspect of American culture displayed on the world stage as worthy of consideration and pride.

This is why America is so despised and why so many would gladly see it fail.

It is the 99% that can change the course of American history for the better and improve Americas standing in world opinion, they are the ones that you should be proud of and celebrated as worthy of consideration.

To deride them is to throw away your own heritage and to help demolish what little is left of your country's future.
