The greatest female lead singer of all time ?

I'll go for Siouxsie Sioux From Siouxsie and the Banshees - at least before she became a mega rich -sold out and retired to a poncy live in France.
Heres a teenage Susan from 1976 - her with the eye make-up on

    and singing a Beatles cover

Have to agree with you for the first time ever. The Banshees were ace. I went to a few of their gigs in Edinburgh and Glasgow in the early eighties.

    some great contenders so far
Patti smith was great at the poetry bit, but when the song started..

ok here's Sevie Nicks singing a smashing version of Gold Dust Women live
takes a while to get going , but worth the wait
she looks nicely zonked too !
can you find a more lovely singer ?

sorry about the 2 cartoon captions the poster added..

Not well up on these matters so not sure if these are leads in the context of shouting and bawling band leads,

    but cool

    Tammy Tyrell

    Roberta Flack

Went to see Stevie Nicks as Fleetwood Mac in Rotterdam (Ahoy) and Rodney (at the O2) in London but here, they are together in Manhattan.

Saw her live just after "Maria" was launched. She was awful....sadly.

Anyway I think everyone is missing our very own Thai superstar:

No competition. Well not from her anyway.

Yeah, saw Blondie live in the 80's just before they split up.

There's a good BBC documentary about them, they made bugger all money and of course she quit to take care of Chris Stein who had some weird illness, which meant she effectively sacrificed the rest of her career.

The vast quantity of drugs they were all doing can't have helped!

She didn't look bad in the Maria video considering she was about 55 at the time (I wouldn't have said no ), but she's nearly 70 now, so I'd have to turn her down.
You, sir, are a God among men....

If I recall well, when she sang the French Kissy song, she did well though. but she is not in her best looks unfortunately...the toll of aging and further beset by earlier drug absorption... sad though... esp. with ladies... its not like we're comparing her to Keith Richards are we???

    Kiss anyone..... with a Blondie????

If she'd lived Karen Carpenter could have gone on to become the greatest ever.

Karen was indeed heavenly with her unique voice but whatever hit her head with her anorexia sure was sad to succumb into. Celine is my current choice besides these great group pieced together... they're all my favs as well...in their own right!!

And here is our current idol
