I know there is another thread that asks about the best guitarists in the world, but I think that is too broad for me being a rock fan. Who would you say are the 10 best rock guitarists in the world?

Here are mine to get everyone started:
1. Jimmy Hendrix
2. Jeff Beck
3. Eddie Van Halen
4. Eric Clapton
5. Chuck Berry
6. Calos Santana
7. Duane Allman
8. Peter Townsand
9. Brian May
10. Jimmy Page
Depends if you're talking about technique or enjoyment.
For me Angus Young is my favourite guitarist, but he's technically 'retarded' compared with some of the fret wankers along the lines of Malmsteen/Satriani/Vai.
Neil Young... One of the great Cats
Only three: Alvin Lee, Ritchie Blackmore, & Jimmy Hendrix
What, no Slash?
Slash would be in my top 5..along with this chap..Originally Posted by Gerbil

Or Gilmour...

Chuck Berry collapses while performing at a concert on New Year's Day in Chicago
Chuck Berry is recovering after collapsing during a concert on New Year's Day. The seminal rock'n'roller is "fine", his agents said, after paramedics were called to a gig in Chicago. The 84-year-old refused refused hospital treatment and left the venue without assistance.
Some of you may not have heard of Sister Rosetta Tharpe
^^
If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it Chuck Berry.
1. John Fusciante...................
2. Got a coin?
what about 'alive and under 50' (some of us are!) that would narrow it down
this thread is in serious risk of becoming another in the category: 'boring old farts re-living half-remembered good ol' days'
Leadbelly
Robert Johnson
Django Reinhardt
BB King
Ry Cooder
Robbie Robertson
JJ Cale
Jimmie Hendrix
Jimmy Page
Duane Allman
Glad to see BB King and Luceile got up there. Great music.
you're all sexist
what about
Suzi Quatro ?
I have also seen BB King, but when I started this thread, I was thinking Rock and not Blues or R&B so they should be left out. Slash and Neil Young are also favorites of mine, but not in my personal top 10, and no you don't have to be over 50 to contibute. My 22 year old son is a Slash fan and would probably put him at number one.
Frank Zappa?
I'd say George Benson, Jerry Douglas, and Albert Lee, but that's stretching the boundaries of rock a bit too far, but then you are including Django Reinhardt!
