Cheap rent or place to live in Australia ?

I am thinking about moving to Australia. I am just worried that I will not find a reasonably priced place to live. I was hoping to find a place for around 40 or $50,000 or rent for about 3 or $400.

Also, I would prefer to be close to the oil industry.

The main reason for moving is the warmer climate and the closer proximity to all things fun. Thailand, Bali ect.

Doable. Probably Perth would be the best place to find jobs in oil & gas or mining- a lot of FIFO's live there.

I just had a look at realestate.com.au and picked 4 or 5 towns that would be amongst the cheapest (and worse) places to live. Seems prices start around $60,000 for the crappiest abodes imaginable.

Ok, this is the scoop from the dude that lives in Perth.

You cant buy anything unless you got $300,000 bucks and that would be for a shitty flat in a crap area. In other words that's entry level into realestate. Further you move out of Perth the cheaper it gets but fok that living in the middle of foking know where with all the welfare punters.

Sky's the limit from there but $400,000 will get you a nice 2 bed unit in a good area close to Perth.

For rental in a good area they start around $350 ish but if you want to slum it they start around $ 250 up for a shit box in a high rise 1 bedroom suicide room surrounded by scum.

Up to you as the slappers say.

I think most of the Aussie ladyboys live in Sydney, so that's where he'll need to live.

Major real estate blow up in Perth and it's thousands of miles from anywhere. Does anybody actually like Perth? Overrun with Poms so I've heard.

Sydney would be the place for Socal. They have a cultural festival there once a year which would be right up his alley. Then there's the harbour.

    What are FIFOS ?

I was thinking mainly on-shore because off-shore is mostly drill rigs and I hate drill rigs. I did some research and it looks like there is some on-shore fields in central Auss and Queeensland, also I seen some wireline and service rig companies with addresses in Brisbane. Brisbane looks like a nice place.

    thanks BTW

Prices in Alberta Canada are just as mental.

The trick is to find a place where the home or mobilehome is too old for a bank to write a mortgage against it. Then it becomes a cash market

I got lucky here on one of those deals.

The thing is, if you work in the oilfields, you are never home so living in shitsville is not that big of deal.

    are those prices monthly ?

Thats the funny thing. Canada and Aussy real estate prices are going to crater when real interest rates go up.

Anything costing 300kish now will sell for 150k.

Hey Socal,, no housing bubble here in Aust. I'm in Brisbane area, we have a housing shortage, rents are $350 - 400 for 3bed house. Prices are a bit flat after the GEC, not much around for less than $320k.& thats if you like living in areas over run by suntaned newzealanders!!!...

When Aussies talk about rental rates, they always talk per week, not month.

Why? you couldn't hack it in Canada on the rigs so you wouldn't last 5 mins with a bunch of aussies. Plus we have enough of our own retards.

That beach is my local and I'm lucky enough to live 3klm away, born and bred in the area.

Tis true us Aussies have the good life.
