| I guess these crossings are to Thakhek in Laos and the other from Khemmarat. The latter isn't too far from the main road 13 in Laos, but why they need this one, I can only surmise. Let's say that anyone who's spent any time in the south of Laos is somewhat surprised by the huge number of Thai lorries which ship (probably illegally) logged timber over the border. Or maybe it's just a ploy to introduce more border crossings where the officers can relieve you of 10,000 kip for the privilege of leaving their country.
Thakhek is supposed to be getting a bridge into Thailand, which will no doubt rival the long awaited one which is almost finished down at Savannakhet. This means more crappy Thai drivers in Laos, more expired products and more dilution of Lao culture. Plus ca change........
