Juddering when braking from high speed

I have quite a bad vibration through the steering wheel when braking at high speeds, 120kph plus, especially when braking hard. I can't feel it through the brake pedal and the steering doesn't shake when driving so i don't think wheel balancing is the issue. Discs and pads were changed recently and have only done abut 10k, however i am having to top the air in two tires once a week or so. Could the imbalance of air cause this problem, or could it be a suspension issue?

    Cheers.

Warped disks. they get too hot and when you pull up at the lights I bet you dont put it in park, you keep your foot on the brakes! this heats the disks up on one side and warpes them over time.

I had this on two cars, both Hondas.

go to your garrage and it will cost 300 baht or about that to re,shape them while you wait.

Never keep my foot on the brakes, nor do i use park. I use the hand brake when stopped for long periods.

Possibly part of problem. Shouldn't have to do this. You've got a leak. Go have it fixed.

Assume you have ABS? ABS will give the feeling of shudder sometimes when you brake from high speed. ABS senses wheel slip and momentarily release brake pressure then reapplies. You may be just experiencing this.

^ I think it's too extreme for that as you can feel when you brake light at high speeds, but braking hard it's quite severe.

I've just had the tires fixed this afternoon, but i think it could be the suspension or suspension mount.

I'll see how it goes with the tires fixed, failing that i'll get it checked out properly.

    Warped disks
    Shock absorbers

    The two most common causes.

no 'kkin way your discs will generate heat at ALL while the car is stopped and keeping your foot on the brake, so this cannot have a bearing on disc warpage at all.
warped discs, normal abs shite feedback (although this will mean feedback on the pedal only, which you said you don't have )or a suspension problem will be the cause.
could also be the thai mechanics' propensity for applying their own "wisdom" while solving a problem.

I would go along with the warped discs. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong because I've not had this conversation for about 12 years but If I remember correctly I was told to 'run in' my discs as they can warp under heavy breaking in the running in period.

10k would be past the running in period but they could be warped from before that.

This could also have been advise for the performance discs I bought at the time. I can't remember.

Well if it was warped disks it would also happen at speeds much lower that 120kph, dodgy sensors, adjustment?

^ I was agreeing with you regard to the ABS problem mate.

I had exactly the same problem with my Accord and there is nothing you can do about it.

If it was ABS you'd feel it on the foot peddle.

I can't remember feeling it through the break peddle but I know even when my wife was driving the car and I was a passenger I could feel the juddering.

Honda has this problem with the ABS and it is quite a well known fact.

errrmmm, the discs would have been heated already by the braking to a stop

    yes?

I'll get it check as it's possible i suppose.

Incidentally, i noticed this morning while driving with the windows down and slowing down to approach lights, the sound of squelching was reflecting of the barrier on the road. So i'm wondering if the disks could be warped and the squelching noise is being produced from the brake cylinders?

Either way, i'm of to the garage later.

The heat build up is in the pads as well.
When the brake pedal is held down whilst stationery, heat builds up in the pad contact area and can warp the disks

    Take your car.
    Jack up the front.
Dismantle the front rolling gear completely.
Clean it so you can eat off it.
    Lube.
    Re assemble, correctly.
    Then get back to us.
    Warped disks.
    I don't thinks so.

Disagree DC, my moneys on a warped rotor, possibly in conjunction with worn dampers. The latter is easy enough to test.
Resurfacing the rotors is not a good idea, once they are out of spec toss them, the metallurgy of the rotor has been changed and regrinding offers a only a limited result, they will warp again, new rotors & pads, while yr at it replace the wheel bearings, on both sides would be my option.

I,ve had buckets of Hondas and warped discs is not a prob.
As I said pull it to bits and take a look.
Dampers, bushes, maybe shocks, but not discs.
My last Honda had 200k click on it.
No probs with brakes. Or actually much else.

It's only got 50k on it so can't see it being bearings.

I'm having tracking, balancing and alignments done at present just to narrow it down a bit.

Anti-roll bar bushes i might get changed while we're at it.
