Jomtien Beach - Next to Pattaya Beach

2 or 3 kms South of Pattaya and only a 10baht taxi journey away it is well worth the 10baht to get away from Pattaya Beach.

Jomtien Beach is 7km long and is actually quite nice and clean, the Northern end of the beach is for the gays, ie you hit the beach and then turn right, this is a pedestarian area so you have to walk, there is parking right next to the Dong Tan Police Sub Station, if you goto the beach within about a kilometer of this area you will be hounded by touts selling ice creams to sun glasses, if you go about 1 or 2kms South you will be left alone for the most part, hopefully.

They have jet skies, banana boats, windsurf boards, catamarans and parasailing here at this beach for rent, also you can rent a speed boat to take you to Koh Larn Island for the day, but this is better done from Pattaya.

Jomtien has every sort of accommodation you could think of, from 200baht per night fan rooms down the small sois to 3 star hotels at around the 600baht per night and up, restaurants galore, quite a few bars and champions agogo bar where quite a few of the gals cant afford to buy any clothes, the gals aint so nice but the prices, aircon and big projector screens make it worthwhile for a beer or 2.

Well I braved life and Butthole this morning, yep in the early hours of this morning I ventured down to the gay beach, it is known as Dong Tan Beach, it's actually nicer and cleaner than the normal folks beach, why should normal people have to do with second best? I say ban the gays to some crappy beach.

The entrance piece to Jomtien Beach.

I drove along this beach this morning and was amazed at the amount of workers actually cleaning it and making it look nice.

From what I understand, the place is generally packed out with old overweight pooves and young Thai men with socks down the front of their swimming costumes, and no, I aint going there again to check out those rumours, but it is a lot nicer than most of the rest of Jomtien Beach.

Nope and thats the beauty of it mate. You never went in to South Pattaya or Walking Street. Hell you never even went into Pattaya itself.

Thats exactly what I do everytime, and me and he family have one hell of a time each and every time.

In Thailands never ending quest to stop tourists being ripped off, here at Jomtien beach about halfway down and quite well hidden is a sign telling you how much you are supposed to pay for stuff like speed boats etc, I really don't think they could have placed it better, I mean this is the part of the beach that nobody goes to.

To be fair, that sign looks to be at least a few years old and in the last year, the price of petrol has doubled. I think the going rate for a jet ski now is about 800-900 baht for 30 minutes. That sign looks to say about 650 "BATH". I'm sure the operators will just say no if you insist on that price.
Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money.

Yeah, but for the 100baht it would cost to rip it down rather than have people read it and then have a confrontation with what they consider to be rip off merchants would be 100baht well spent.

Anyway for our American readers you will be pleased to know that as you turn onto Jomtien Beach Road there is a traditional American eatery, yep, you don't have to eat none of that firey stuff full of chilis and garlic that gives you the trots, Colonel Saunders and his chickens have arrived in Jomtien, bringing with him his secret recipe on how to make chicken taste like cardboard.

    No he isn't ao
To give you an idea of how commercialised Jomtien Beach is it has 3 7/11s, tomorrow when I drive down the beach road I shall count how many condo units it has.

DD, if I'm not mistaken, those three 7-11's are on 3 consecutive sois, or pretty darn close to it. There is so much business flowing out of each soi, that it's justifies the business (location) plan...7-11's are a fokking success story in Thailand!!
