| my first bike at age 16 was a 50cc yamaha.
worked bloody hard on weekends on a miniature railway to earn enough to buy the non-runner. got my license, and crashed it three times on the first day i was legally on the road!!!
progressed to a 125cc moto-guzzi i got for free from a friend who could not get it running, then on to a 1200cc wartime harley that i got for free for the same reason.
progressed to a moto guzzi 750 s, which i wrote off into the side of a car, and gained a few ounces in weight in the form of steel plates and screws in my right leg.
then i went on to matchless and beeza, which were already considered to be antiques by then.
had a brief flirtation with riceburner "superbikes" of the day, then settled down to triumph bonnevilles which were out of fashion and ridiculously cheap at the time.
scored a ducati 900ss (bevel) for next to nothing after it was destroyed in a fire, then concentrated on buying up and restoring ducati's, flathead and panhead harleys, dozens of bonnevilles, a good number of nortons, one vincent shadow etc.
busy building a '41 wl at the moment that some poor fella took to the local harley shop more than 5 years ago for restoration, they stripped it and lost half of it and now they are paying me (big-time) to finish the job and get the guy off their back!
my favourites?
good old bonneville, although the best bikes i ever owned were probably the old 900ss bevel dukes.
