What is your favourite combat aircraft?

I love the classic beauty of the Avro Vulcan

Also the sleek lines of the mainstay of Australia's long range bomber fleet the F1-11. I had the priviledge of working on the F1-11 in a technical support role although I was never lucky enough to score a trip in one and it is sad to see the skeletons being dismantled on the runways.

But there is something about the brutal ugliness of the A10 tank-buster that makes it my favourite.

I also love the sturdy lines of the Avro Lancaster and wish we had a flying example down under.

Has to be the wart-hog... The epitome of the ground-attack support aircraft...

For me it has to be the SR-71 Blackbird, as a kid used to build Airfix model kits of them and such.

The F-86 has always been on of my favorites, but there is something about the A-10's... Much like using a jack-hammer to drive a nail...

First airfix model I ever bought, prolly like a lot of posters here, was the Spitfire. Quite pleased with it till I read the Hurricane was the unsung warhorse hero of the Battle of Britain.

Anyway favourite combat aircraft after the A10...

Was gonna go with the Apache, but this just looks better.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

Bit unfair to leave out ze yermans.

Special mention for the ground-breaking me-262

..and the JU-87 Stuka (with shrieking air siren built under the nose to give fair warning to the locals on the ground - what sporting fellows)

How about the P-38 Lightening? How the most kills of any U.S. warplane. I do like the A-10 and lucky enough to see it in action. I was at the recently "liberated" Baghdad Airport and saw a pair of A-10s plaing Wild Weasel with AA guns still hidden out in the bush. One would come down and AA rounds would fire at it giving the second A-10 a target to fire off a Maverick at it. They did that for about an hour and it always worked. Some idiot would take a potshot at the first one and then get nailed by the second. They also used their main gun a few times, "Brrrrrrrrrrrrr!", amazing stuff. If that offends any peaceniks out there. Again, thank you for making a choice to not join your country's military and making a stain on it. AHHHHHHH, I can't get a picture of a P-38 to load!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, that one is the simulator they use to train on, the military won't allow pictures of the real thing you know
