My first documentary.

"A drunken idiot in Europe"

The entirety of this was filmed when either steaming pissed or horribly hungover.

Excuse my lugubrious tones...

...and I'm aware that the first bar in Brussels is for they who aren't interested in female company.

Check it out if you have a spare 20 minutes.

Obliged, etc etc

» Saturday evening musings/Sunday morning mountain biking
Oct 20, 2014 - 12:46 AM - by somtamslap
Mr Slap sat nestled into his sofa quaffing rampantly at a large bottle of Bierre Moretti. It was indeed a fine beverage. He made a mental note to buy more of it. Lots more. It certainly had the potential to become his lager of choice - and lager, if truth be told, played an integral role in Mr Slap's existence; acted as a lubricant if you will; greased the wheels; oiled the intricacies; made the whole damn gig a little easier to endure.

The X Factor was on. It was either that or... [Read More]

» Myanmar Visa Advice - October 2014
Oct 18, 2014 - 9:56 PM - by Codesh
I just tried to do an online visa to Myanmar (Burma) for a trip 2 weeks from now. But their website, at present, allows you to obtain this visa only if you are flying into Yangon (see: Myanmar eVisa (Official Government Website).

If, like me, you want to fly to Mandalay, it seems you must use a travel agent or go to the Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok and apply in person.

So, as I don't... [Read More]

Landing in Paris airport in the late evening after cancelled and delayed flights from Bangkok, checked into a hotel (120 Euros !!!) and supped a couple of bottles of Frances staple (another 40 Euros!!!), had a quick nap, overslept, dashed to the airport and just managed to catch the morning flight to Brest.

When i alighted from a short hop flight from Paris to Brest, hungover, i was met with clear blue skies and a very warm sun.
Quick photo of the outside of the airport, then... [Read More]

» My mate big bird
Oct 13, 2014 - 9:15 PM - by beerlaodrinker
Just got of the phone talking to big bird about his recent 3 week holiday to the Philippines, he had a blast, what impressed me most was the fact that big bird is 100 percent blind and gets around with a white stick, the wife dropped him of in Angeles then continued on to Manila to see the family, big birds always been pretty indepedant and does his own thing, can you imagine being sightless in a rathole like AC when I first met him some 30years ago he could kind of see through the coke... » Slap's train tours: One - Fish pie in Pompey
Oct 13, 2014 - 2:18 PM - by somtamslap
I've developed something of an affinity with train travel. It really is the only way to travel; more relaxing than a car or a motorcycle; doesn't demand perpetual physical exertion like cycling; is infinitesimally less terrifying than flying; and doesn't elicit constant nausea a la sailing.

The only way to travel.

In fact, I have been known to use trains just for the sake of the journey - rather than the actual destination. And this first report is a case in... [Read More]

» Marseille to London
Oct 10, 2014 - 7:03 PM - by Fluke
17 years old and I found myself in Marseille , South of France with no money, no friends, nowhere to live and nothing to eat , so I deiced to go back home . Easy, telephoned my Mum , reverse charges and asked to to send me some money over , "stay there and dont come back" was the reply . Needed to think again, take the bull by the horns and just go . Walked to the train station and saw a train going to some city between Marseille and Paris , got on it and went to the sleeper... [Read More]

Oct 09, 2014 - 8:23 PM - by somtamslap
Way back when, during days of yore, when a carefree Mr.Slap was literally just that - free of care - it wasn't uncommon to happen upon our hero in a state of thorough and comprehensive intoxication courtesy of a vast range of mind-bending illegal narcotics. In fact, I feel it has, to an extent, shaped my persona of today - as in I'm a bit fucking retarded.

But alas, those halcyon days couldn't continue; mainly due to the fact that I relocated to old Siam where the merest mention... [Read More]

» Where to go at Xmas for a family holiday?
Oct 09, 2014 - 7:44 AM - by Kurgen
I want to take my family, wife, kids aged 6 + 13 and myself, and my Mum and Dad on holiday for 3 or 4 nights between Christmas and New Year.

The kids need a beach, Mum and Dad can't be to far away from western food and I enjoy a beer or 3.

I've been looking at Krabi and Koh Samui but nothing has jumped out at me yet.

I like my creature comforts so a 4 star resort or hotel is what I am more than likely looking for.

Any ideas for these 2 places... [Read More]

Irish Visa deal with UK to boost visitor numbers

In an unprecedented degree of co-operation between Ireland and Britain, the two governments will today sign an historic visa agreement that will allow international tourists to apply for one travel permit to visit both countries.

The agreement, which will be signed in the Irish Embassy in London by Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald and the British home secretary, Theresa May, will apply... [Read More]

Oct 05, 2014 - 2:59 PM - by terp80
Driving around town the other day, picking up various items for the house. Wife asks me to stop at a market so she can buy some food. After she gets back in the car, and we're driving down the road, she says, "Here try this." I say, "What is it?" - while not taking my eyes off the road. She says "An animal from Doi Tau." I say, "Snake?" and she says, "Haha, no no," and pops it in my mouth. ... [Read More]
