Good day to you all,
I have recently moved to Chiang Mai and am interested in all kinds of voluntary work that can be done here, be it for local villages, animal rescue centers, something education wise, maybe even temples or national parks.
The possible duration of stay should not exceed one week, but I am interested to see if any of you know organizations or places that are in need of volunteers.
Any input is welcome
Oh and by the way:
Since I will be living here for about five months, I was thinking of buying a... [Read More]

I was having a gripe last week, and on many other occaisions about the quality of service from T.O.T, (Twats Of Thailand) (Tossposts Of Thailand) whatever the initials stand for.
Last week we had them out twice to repair a phone with no dial tone and an internet service that works at about half the rate advertised.
Each time, they spend half an hour and seem to only reverse the polarity of the two wires to the house, then they piss off to the main box where I eventually connect to.
Half an hour later, I get a call and the phone and internet are fine.
Half an hour later it is fucked again!
Friday, it went down at about 2PM, I... [Read More]

Feb 08, 2010 - 10:18 AM - by filch |
I recently had an endoscope and it turns out I had some sort of abnormality/infection in my stomach and duodenum. I was prescribed medication (3 weeks worth) and told to go back for a check up after 3 weeks. Everything was good upon the return visit and the Doc prescribed another 4 weeks worth of medication (same medication).
Now at this point I stopped the Doc and asked him why the medication was so expensive, the last 3 weeks worth cost over 7,000THB! My health insurance didn't cover it and I was out of pocket. Now, I am guessing that 4 weeks worth will be in the 9,000+THB region.
He pointed out that this was brand name medication and it is expensive, but... [Read More]

I decided that I would have 3 days in Vientiane and also the g/f wanted to go so it was decided. As I was in Khon Kaen decided that we would catch the Thai Laos Friendship bus.
There are two buses leaving Khon Kaen one at 7.45am and the other at 3.00 pm. We had decided on the early one as had not booked accommodation and this would give us time to find something decent, as the other bus would not arrive into Vientiane until about 8 pm at night.
If you decide to catch either bus from Khon Kaen you are best advised to obtain your visa for Laos at the consulate in KK. This was a very simple process, go to the consulate a couple of days before hand. ... [Read More]

Feb 07, 2010 - 11:37 PM - by njdesi
The wife and I are applying for a tourist visa for her parents to come visit us for three months. Due to the exorbitant cost of health insurance here (two days before my wife was eligible to be included in my plan, she cut her finger and it costs $700 for the hospital to do a few stitches), we want to get some type of insurance policy to cover her parents in case of a medical emergency. I know that Canadians visiting the US will buy a temporary policy and was wondering if anyone knew a reputable company that can insure her parents while they visit the US.

Feb 07, 2010 - 2:01 PM - by mtone9317
Three hour long parade in Chiang Mai was fantastic. The Prince Royal Marching Band was a favorite, many floats stopped the parade, 30 or 40 people taking photos at each turn at the Tha Phae Gate. The floats were...I don't have the words for them...so beautiful. The festival continues today with stage appearances. More later...
