» Bobcock in Japan
Feb 24, 2015 - 10:07 AM - by Bobcock
I have so much annual leave stored up, I need to take a weeks holiday in each of Feb, March, April and May......

So... February I had a week in Tokyo.... what a city, one of the greatest I have visited and to be honest I think I made a tiny stratch on the surface of it. Sadly I didn't get the chance to meet up with Wally Dorian but if he talks as much bollocks in person as he does on the cricket thread, that was a blessing.

Because of Chinese New Year we had to change... [Read More]

» Tennyson Down. Isle of Wight
Feb 21, 2015 - 11:46 PM - by Neo
On the Island this weekend so got up early this morning and took the dog out while the sun was out and the light was good for a few photos.

Parked up in Freshwater, walked up to the Tennyson memorial and then along to the battery above The Needles, then all the way back again. about 10 miles in all.

» Cyclone Marcia
Feb 20, 2015 - 1:03 PM - by Ozcol
Just been watching the live news on channel 9 Aus , I tell a lie , been on it most of the day, Cyclone Marcia has been through Yepoon and done a lot of damage, although being downgraded from category 5 to cat4 just before it hit land , but I doubt anyone cared about the rating . The thing I am a bit worried about is it is heading for Rockhampton as a cat3 , I have a son, daughter in law and a granddaughter living in Rocky, although I am sure the young bloke has enough brains to keep safe ,one... » Saturday morning walk Kallang to Chinatown
Feb 15, 2015 - 7:23 PM - by slimboyfat
Good evening.

I'm on a bit of a health kick at the moment and trying to lose a few kgs so I've taken to doing a bit of walking.

On Saturday morning for some reason I woke up too early so decided to walk to Chinatown, starting off at Kallang. It's about a 6.5 km walk.

I left around 0700 walked to Maxwell Market, had some chicken porridge and a lime juice for brekkie, then going into Chinatown, which was fairly quiet considering Chinese New Year is just... [Read More]

» Japan's new SE Asia visa exemptions
Feb 15, 2015 - 5:08 PM - by runner
I think it's great that most residents of SE Asia can now visit Japan visa-free. I'll be joined by a Thai there in April after I spend March in Taiwan. It leaves me thinking, if Japan can do it, why not the EU / UK?

» Memoirs of an urban commute
Feb 14, 2015 - 8:52 PM - by somtamslap
I recently acquired a folding bicycle. With such a piece of apparatus I would be afforded the luxury of being able to board rush hour trains without being lynched by a baying mob of commuters, just dying to compliment their morning coffee with a public butchering.

You can see it in their eyes. The commuting set, particulalry those who use the train, are invariably angry, angry people. They want blood. They want suffering. They are the desparate and the depraved and the... [Read More]

» Little Koh Chang
Feb 12, 2015 - 9:03 AM - by Boon Mee
It actually isn't all that 'little' as it took me >3 hours to bike around the perimeter.

Most folks are aware of 'Big' Koh Chang off Changwat Trang but me & the missus headed out to Little Koh Chang where it's more rustic.

Little Koh Chang is off Changwat Ranong just north of Phayam Island which is more developed with motorbikes to rent etc.

We stayed at a resort called 'Context' towards the north end of the island that sports a dozen or so... [Read More]
