About 18 years ago, I took a trip with some teachers to a small place in Ratchaburi province which was a temple next to a mountain with a bat cave above it. It was just truly amazing when at a certain time the bats poured out of the cave opening and flew out over the temple. There were what seemed like millions forming a giant string out into the sky. I thought the string would stop but it stretched on and on and on. I remember it going for 45 minutes so in my mind that was how long it was but... [Read More] | |

Having been assured a village in 'Ubon' was only 3k from Ubon city we got a 12 hour bus there for the weekends celebrations, rockets, concert, parade and kids becoming monks stuff. I thought if it was too boring I could get into Ubon which I like. When we got there discovered the place was actually 130k from the city, so walking it was out! It last 4 hours starting at 8pm and you get to see some of the best singers in the country. Finding out when they are on can be difficult though, this one was at bang khea this week. Just back from a trip to china with her indoors, we flew out of Vientiane and started in Kunming, then took a domestic to chongquing where we got on a bullet train to chengdu. Loads of pics so it might be a long thread, grab a beer and pull up a chair
First thing to do is nip over to the chinese embassy in Vientiane and get tourist visas, $35 for me ( aussie passport) And $15 For the wife ( Lao passport ) bung em another $20 each and you can get it back next day instead of 4... [Read More] | |
