May 17, 2012 - 1:58 AM - by can123 |
I have only used this for a couple of hours but it seems, initially, to be excellent. It is the Android version of the dictionary and has just been released. The publisher is Paiboon and it is available in the Google Market. It cost me just under £ 16, so about 800 baht.
I first saw a Thai "talking" dictionary when i was studying for my CELTA. Over ten years ago, it had cost over £ 80 at Pantip and wasn't much good.
This also explains the reasoning behind the sound of the words and is very helpful to me as I struggle with the tone marks.
The Paiboon site can be found here :

121 Views | » Actual ATM Baht Purchase - AEON & SCB
May 15, 2012 - 7:40 PM - by Dez |
Today I bought quantity T baht a few minutes apart in each of two ATMs: one was AEON and the other was SCB. I used the same bank card.
The purchase from SCB became T + 150 baht due to the bank's ATM charge. However, I received only T baht - the 150 extra I purchased went to SCB.
My home bank does not have a fee for foreign ATM use. My bank does add 2.5% onto the exchange rate and I accounted for this. The card was a bank card using the Plus Network. It was not a Visa card.
Checking my home bank account this evening and doing the arithmetic the exchange rate used was exactly the same. The cost, however, was worse for SCB as I did not receive all... [Read More]

May 15, 2012 - 7:56 AM - by Jimmy25
Excuse me, does anyone knows a good barber in Bangkok? I live in Samut Prakan Srinakarin, it would be nice if it's : Near to where I am ; Teenager hair style for boys (Korean-style) ; Student price (not so expensive). I've tried many barber shops around here esp Central Bangna and I'm not satisfied with most of them... BTW, phone number / website to contact the barber will be extremely helpful. Thank You : )

184 Views | » Teaching English to Thais
May 14, 2012 - 9:00 PM - by Thaiedward |
Hello to all.
May I report that I'm finally in Siam on a long-term basis.
I've had several requests from Thai friends to assist them in learning English but have not been able to find a manual or set of guidelines in a single publication. Ideally, this book would be Thai to English and would be in the possession of the student for the purpose of self-study.
Any suggestions?
If the posing of my question on this forum was inappropriate, I do apologize.
Thank you for your kind attention.
ThaiEdward
P.S., Please PM, if possible.

Right.
So I was buying from the stall 20m up soi 3 on the right until I received kebabs of ridiculously high festering levels. I voted with my feet and changed brand to the one 10m down from grace hotel toward sukhumvit. All was well for a few days until I tried the "beef" one without copius amount of sauce. Rotten dog meat would have been an improvement. Currently the stall directly outside of Nana is tasting good and fresh.

I have been to chiang rai once, and seen those night clubs near the income hotel. but haven't actually being in there. How are the prices there?
Also I've seen clubs on the phayothin road down town, seems there are couple of clubs there as well. There was a club called HARDCORE, but not as expected.. really crappy atmosphere and hardcore guys dressed in black. that sucks big time.

May 14, 2012 - 12:35 PM - by theateratthegate |
The Gate Theater Group, Chiang Mai's English Language theater company, opened "Driving Miss Daisy" almost 2 years ago in Chiang Mai. They will be back with encore performances this week on May 19th at 7:00 pm and the 20th at 400 pm. Both shows will be staged at Chiang Mai International school.
Last night they played Chiang Rai and received a really positive review;
Do you remember the original 1951 movie of “An American in Paris” well, how about Thailand?
Chiang Rai, Thailand only has about 60,000 people. Tonight we were fortunate to experience some top-notch entertainment. The play “Driving Miss Dai...sy” (in English)... [Read More]

May 14, 2012 - 11:27 AM - by Notnow |
In Thailand, they say Western culture is taking over. The same with all Asian countries. In England, they are losing theirs to Asians. Could there be a common denominator? It does look like it.
This problem is mostly in cities, get out in the boondocks and it is much less so.
Apparently, for reasons of efficiency cities copy what works from each other. BBC News - Study links biodiversity and language loss
